I'm not near old enough to remember them, but I've seen and know them all, some real classics out there.. which is your guys favorite?

Talk about an amazing success story, those ads were. I believe it was 1958? they hired Carl Hahn, and he hooked up with DDB ad made the ads.. simple as can be - too simple for ad critics, they didn't like them because they were simple and pointless, they said.. there was too much blank space - well, that's what the Beetle was all about! Heck, look in the engine compartment - lots of blank space! lol

I see the billboards nowadays of the GTI and such, and I remember the old ads..

"After a few years, it starts to look beautiful"

"What's a nice car like you doing in a Volkswagen Ad?" (Fastback ad)

"Will it spoil the Volkswagen image?" (Another Fastback ad)

I love the lines in the old ads.. nothing has yet to compare! As it was put so perfectly in an old ad: "Ugly as ever. Beautiful. Just beautiful."

What's your fav? New or old

I think the new ones cannot compare to the old ads.

Its good when an automaker can make fun of itself. I've never seen those old ads, where can I see them??

Not so old, but old I like the Speed Racer/GTI cartoon/commercial

My all time fav is the commercial where the guy drives his Beetle out to the snowplow

my favorite is:

"After we paint the car...we paint the paint"

and then we paint the paint and then we paint the paint.

this ad came out around 1960 to show that vw has four coats of paint.
the picture is of 4 beetle "shells" stacked on top of each other painted in red.

And that Jetta ad where a couple is driving through the French quarter in the rain, and everything moves in sync with the music, and at the end they just say: "That was interesting."
Coca Cola stole the idea.

I'll try and find the video.
