porsche 956 'Spirit of America' 1986 LM

Recently I'm building this prosche 956 after infected by AF LM contest Everything is stock except it goes with ST27 decal. Here are some pictures I've started, enjoy.

The real stuff:

Under chassis, not completed as alot of touch-up coming up.

Wheels:

Body without decal. My masking skill is not good and paint slip throught make me feel like

interior shot. All painted as instruction sheet asked. It will be stock without wire because I don't know how-to

Looks fantastic to me. Is this a tamiya kit?

Hey!

Nice subject of a truly amazing piece of machinery. Your build looks fine to me! Don't know what kind of tape you are using? But if you haven't tried Tamiya's masking tape, by all means do so...it's fantastic. Things I used to do with masking liquids I now do with this one. Might have to get me these decals my self as I have one of those Porsche's laying around in need of new decals. Keep us updated on the progress, I'm eagerly awaiting the decals to be put on.

Cheers!
Niclas

Looks good, I like your paint work. If you sray clear after you mask and before spraying the second color you will minimize the paint creeping under the tape.

I like it. I need to know what paints you people are using to get these lovely shining finishes. I use Tamiya rattle cans and it doesn't come close. Do you use auto paints?

Making terrific progress there Rtuned. Do you want to enter this in the comp? And do you intend to source some BBS rear wheels like those in the pic of the real car?

Tikiman - Tamiya make some of the best rattlecans there are, if you use them right. Perhaps you should check out the FAQ for some tips.

Heres the engine bay from the winner in 87 to inspire you. If you want more let me know as I have a bunch of 962 photos kicking about in the archieve (read: piles of photos) in my office!

Looking lik a nice build, I've always liked 962s and this was a good color scheme for it.

lotus_man... thanks for the pict. I might try it on my next 956 Rothman.

RallyRaider ... Is it too late to join in? I would like to if possible. As for the BBS, I use the wheel hub with decal of 'BBS' on it, I know is a cheater way. Anyway is my first build on LM, so hopefully can finish in box stock look. Thanks.

Tikiman... I use rattle can too. Tamiya TS-26 (pure white) and Mr.hobby #5 (blue).

proosen... well actually I use tamiya masking tape too...but the paint slip through, is my bad for not double checking the lid on masking tape...

nervestrikes... yes, is a tamiya kit. I used the 'Canon' 956 version to do it.

Thanks for all the comment, more update will be post later.

No it is not too late, there is still plenty of time left. Until next years race, usualy about June-July. I'll add you to the list and change the thread title to indicate it is your entry.

The 956, certainly more attractive than the 962.

Seriously, the 962 always looked like a big ol pancake compared to its shorter wheelbase brother.

Ah well, still wish the Lancia LC2 had kicked its Stuttgart ass.

Looking good, rtuned, in all seriousness. It's another great example of just how much diversity the contest is attracting.

Now I seeing stars and strips The stars are all individual pieces, same as the stripes... I have spend 6hours job on the decal but yet is not finish. I shall continue tomorrow. here's more update.

My 'cheater' BBS rear rims .

Although the blue color is way to dark, but it looks fine to me The strip decals are not long enough to cover the whole body, and worst is they only give you 2 small tiny stripes to cover the rest. I think I'm going to spray the red color on those which are not cover well.

RallyRaider...Thanks alot.
