Odd Starting problems

Here's a new problem to bounce off you guys. My 87 ta seems to be running great, but my problem comes even before the engine fires. About every 3 out of 4 times, it'll take upwards up 10 to 15 cranks to get the motor to turn over. Any other time, its fine. I figure if it were the starter, I would have a problem every time. Also, I dont know if it's just coincidence, but the problems seem to happen during the warmest parts of the day. The fuel fiter is new, changed last month, and I just had an injecter flush done last week, so, any ideas will be appreciated.

Re: Odd Starting problems

you may have distributor problems. not getting enough fire to start it. could be your plugs and wires, but id say its in your distributor. probally the rotor button.

you may not have to replace the distributor, i would take the cap off of it. it could be cracked, you can get one for like $20, there is a rotor button on top of the distributor shaft. they also go bad and you can replace it, but the rotor button is usually the culparate, thats what gets the fire to your points in the distrubutor cap. but this can save you money, but i would definatly chek out the cap and rotor button.

my 94 TA is doing pretty much the same thing. One time it will turn right over. The next it may take two or three times...

The 88 firebird I have is kinda the same way. I just assumed it to be normal for the car, its done it since i bought it over a year ago. In the summer when its warm most of the time it cranks for a little before starting. Once in awhile it will fire right up. I replaced plugs, wires, cap and button when i bought it. In the winter though it will fire right up as soon as I hit the key, it doesn't crank at all. Don't know if its normal or not but thats the way it is.
