1.8T off course, way easier to get more power out of it, vr6 costs many $$$ to get a litlle bit more power out of it

well "dumbass", don't care why put all the money in a very expensive turbo when you have one standard on the 1.8? That freaky vr6 drinks like hell, the power isn't very impressive(standard) so it just costs to much money for what it is. i know what gonna put in my mk1 and it will NOT be a VR6:rocket:

Seeing as this is a seven month old thread, I don't think what I say matters, but anyway..
It depends on a few things.
The 1.8t is a nice engine, surprisingly nice for a turbocharged four-cylinder. If your friend want too keep the Golf feeling, swap in a 1.8t.
But if he on the other hand want a cruiser, get the VR6, the power delivery is so smooth, it pulls hard across the power band and makes a nice sound It does however cost a lot of money to get any more power out of it.

So basically it comes down to two things, money and weight.
If he hasn't got so much of one of them, and don't want anymore of the other, get the 1.8t
If he has a lot of one, and wouldn't mind some more of the other, get a VR6.

Re: 1.8T or VR6???

OK the 1.8t swap is better in every way.
1. its cheaper
2. u can get 250 horses for jus a lil over 2 grand
( turbo kits, exhuast, pullies etc )
3. Its an easier swap if u already have a 4 cyl
4. new upgrades r popn up everyday.
The VR6 is nice, but if ur talkn bout power easy and cheap then go 1.8t, but if u want a super VW then throw on a VF-Enginneering supercharger!
assumin u want to spend tha much money, ur frined i should say. the rides goin to be a bit more harsh on the 86 vw, if u drop a VR6. since it oringally wasnt made for a 6. the suspension and axles r quite built for it. i mean ill work fine ovcourse. it bascilly comes down to what he wants out of his VW. If he jus wants cheap temp speed tell him to get some forged pistons and run nitros, the Stock rods r strong enough for 50 shots.
