Ford Racing GT-40 Intake Manifold

Im thinking in investing into the GT-40 intake manifold. But before I do Im wondering if this mod calls for a mass air conversion, or I can still milk the speed density? (88 GT)

I believe unless you change your heads/cam that u shouldnt have to convert to mass air. I think speed density can handle minor mods and even the intake manifold. Maybe you should do mass air anyways, be great in the long run.

I was going to convert, buts its like $550. The GT-40 intake manifold is $600. I have $600 to spend its basically a toss up.
GT-40 intake manifold = Horsepower
Mass air conversion = Allows me to make the major upgrades down the road.
What would you go with? Mass air still?

first off, you can find a gt-40 manifold and often a cobra intake to go along with it for much less than that on ebay. i'd upgrade to mass air first anyway.... it'll prepare you for your other mods.

I would not get a GT-40 intake unless I got an awesome deal. There are many intake manifolds that are far superior for equal or less money.

I also have speed density on my mustang. I have been told hat with speed density the computer will adjust air and fuel back to factory specs . so if you add more with a better intake the computer will null out the changes. now with MAF the computer will recalibrate after all changes. just disco the battery and it will allow the computer to acccept add ons. not to mention i ve been told idle quality is better with MAF

Can I find a cheaper mass air conversion kit. The one on summit is expensive.

Which ones are superior for less or equal price specifically?

Is summit the only place to pick up the Mass air conversion?

Yeah Trick Flow is nice one. I have the track heat and am thus far pleased. MAF conversions are carried by many companies, summit usually has the best deals on parts though. Most of my entire car is summit bought.

No this is not how SD works. SD will adjust to changes by performance parts. Here are the 2 problems with SD: 1. It can only change within stock pre-map variatons. 2. It can not handle mods which would cause large lamda in manifold pressure.

As far as better/superior intake manifolds. Hell the Cobra intake manifold has been tested and only flows 1 cfm less than the GT-40 and can be purchased for half the price. I don't even like the Cobra but it just goes to show how overpriced the GT-40 is.

Re: Ford Racing GT-40 Intake Manifold

What about the trick flow EFI Street intake manifold? The track heat one would need a cam too go along with it right? Also the idle is 1500 -6500 rpm on the track heat what does that mean.(idle is no lower than 1500 and no higher then 6500?

Re: Ford Racing GT-40 Intake Manifold

Get the explorer intake, same as Cobra/GT-40, just doesn't look quite as cool. Never over 300 bucks, though.

BTW GT-40 and Cobra intakes are internally the same...

if you can find a junkyard mustang you could salvage the needed parts from it . but i ve read the process for conversion and its a little tricky so you will want directions . i was gonna get mine from summit too. there was this one place that had one for 626.00 but that came with 24# injectors and of course the meter was calibrated for them .The place is called excessive motor sports ExcessiveMotorsports.com or 1-800-930-9585
