how can you identify the SE editon besides the badges

when i was investigating whether or not my car had abs or not at the dealer, i got a bunch of bs which i posted on a previous post. what they basically said was that all 98 SE's had abs, that you could tell by 4 wheel disc brakes, 4 lines coming from the brake booster, and they even blamed my tires before they realized they were all wrong(all the service advisors got together on this one). i was kinda amused. then they said my maxima was not a SE edition because of lack of badges on the doors. what can you guys tell me about identifying the SE editions? anyone own a SE without the badges?

Sorry you still couldn't find any info. I did a little search and found this site with a bunch of stuff. I don't know exactly where, but they have to say something about the SE model.

The SE has if I remember, either white faced or titanium faced gauges . . . either way, if you got black faces . . . no SE.

A spoiler is a dead give away . . . although it's optional on the other models . . . in other words . . . no spoiler, no SE.

Then, if you have chrome door handles . . . forget about it. It's a GXE . . . or if it's fully loaded . . . it's a GLE.

The only model that comes from the factory without badges is the GXE . . . the base model Maxima . . . You can also usually tell by the style of wheels on the car.

I'll try to find some pix of what the wheels would look like on the GLE, and SE that year . . . the GXE came standard with wheel covers (you might call them hubcaps) . . . if you have those . . . definately, no SE!

ok, i guess this confirms that the nissan service reps don't know squat and should stop acting like their experts and actually ask someone. i've got the spoiler, white faced gauges, the wheels were already upgraded when i got them, no badges since it's an 98. thanks everone, you've all actually been a lot of help, not much i can say about the service reps at nissan, i just hope that their mechanics know their stuff when it comes time to do some warranty work. other than that, i'll probably be buying a fsm.

I have a 99 SE-L...


It has Titanium gauges... Titanium 16" rims... Perforated Leather seats embosses with SE... Titanium SE badges on front doors and titanium Maxima on trunk... All SE's come with a spoiler 95-99 I am unsure about the rest...


BTW I have a 5spd, Sunroof, No ABS, Leather, Auto climate control, and SE badged floormats.

One more thing the SE's in 99 were just that until Feb 2000 when they were all SE-L's with the side badges...

You have an SE if you have all the before mentioned items, but not all cars came with ABS. The ABS will have it's own module in the engine bay, a light on the dash, and extra parts around the brakes. There are some studs on the forward hubs which look like they should hold something, but they just sit there, these are for the abs. All cars came standard with 4 wheel disc brakes. Sounds like the service techs are full of it. Tell em to get bent.

I have a 97 SE... it doesn't have any labels on it at all. the se's have white face gauges, color coded grills, different rims, black molding around the windows, colored door handles, spoiler, foglights, different sport steering wheel...etc.

A Maxima with a spoiler that is not a SE will still have the 3rd brake light INSIDE the car at the window from all the ones i have seen

How to tell if it's a SE on the 5th gen. Maxima.
1. Look at the rims.
2. Tail lenses.
3. leather interior-I think GXE don't offer leather as a option.
4. Tail pipe.
5. Fog light-GXE don't have
6. Spoiler- everyone can put one on.
7. SE emblem.
What else did I left out??
