Le Mans contest entry: BMW 3.5 CSL Art Car - detailed!

Hi all!
Here's my entry, the famous BMW 3.5 CSL Art Car by Frank Stella, that ran at Le Mans in 1977.

I think, it will be a nice addition to Estefan's Lichtenstein Art Car, the BMW 320i.

The only one missing in this contest now is the BMW M1 by Andy Warhol... Renaissance promised long time ago, that they will bring out a transkit with decals for that one (based on Revell's BMW M1), but so far, nothing! Or does anyone know better?

Anyway, I always wanted to build this kit as a detailed version and not as a curbside model. Finally, I found some information on the Stella Art Car. I already knew, that BMW used a 3.5 inline 6 with a 4-valve head plus turbo charger with intercooler putting out up to 750 to 800 HP!
Here are some pics of the engine that I found:

So, here's my plan (it will defintely be a long-lead project!):

Use the curbside Arii kit and open the hood:

put on the Studio27 decals:

use some nice wheels (Fujimi Metal):

and sacrifice a "couple" of Fujimi Enthusiast kits....
For the chassis, I will use this one:

The engine will come from this one:

and, finally, the Turbo charger will be taken from this kit:

I hope, everything will work out as planned... wish me luck!!

All the best, Marc

Sacrifying Enthusiast Kits!!!!!!! That's pure crazyness! (lol)

A wondefull entry - one more - and for sure not the less interesting build project!...

And good luck, Marc!

Yes, I know, and I feel somehow bad about it...
But, I don't know any other solution to build a detailed 3.5 CSL??
And don't worry, I have a second M635 CSi in the shelves...
Plus, one day, I will use the remaining parts of the EM kits on a Scalekraft transkit, that I have, the BMW E9 (2800CS - 3.0CSi).

So, please forgive me!

Marc

Perhaps you can list all the sprues with the parts that you need and put in a spare parts order with HLJ.

Interesting project, can wait to see some progress news.

[quote=exhaust smoke]Perhaps you can list all the sprues with the parts that you need and put in a spare parts order with HLJ.

That's a good idea, I should try that. But, do you know whether spare parts for the Fujimi Enthusiast kits still exist? Does HLJ carry all kind of spare parts?
Especially regarding the Alpina B7 kit, it would be nice, if they have spare parts since I want to take only the turbo charger plus a few other parts from the kit and nothing else.

Thanks, I'll give it a try!

One more, a bit OT, question to you all:
Does anyone have information on the Renaissance transkit for the Revell BMW M1 to build the Andy Warhol Art Car?

All the best, Marc

That is flat out going to look incredible.

I'm really enjoying this Le Mans contest because it seems everyone is trying to "out obscure" everyone else.

Hmm, makes me think I should build Herschel McGriff's 1976 Dodge Charger.

Welcome to the contest Marc, you are entry number 20 Isn't there some other way to make the parts you need rather than bashing so many kits? Seems a bit of a shame, but if the end justifies the means then it will be worth it!

We sure are getting some exotic entries, all the cars I'm considering are conventional by comparison!

Sorry, this car is from LM 76. And there is the Alexander Calder painted 3.0CSL from 75 missing, to gather them all.

Otherwise, I admire your courage (I´m making the Schnitzer and Alpina versions from LM 76, with a minimum of modifications to the kit, and there is so much to look at...).

Good luck!
