WOOHOO! Finally a forum that I might know something in.

Ill get rolling here and ask a question. Does anybody here have a dvd recorder yet? Im going to be custom making a new pc for myself in a few weeks (going all out might I add )

Im just wondering as to the quality of these drives. I see that the price is fairly steep but basically im wondering if I should wait a few more months before buying one? I will most likely be using it just to take the place of my cd-rw drive for backups, and file storage. I may use it to burn a few dvd movies in the future.

Is there even a standard for dvd recorders yet?

Thanks

-Rich

Not sure about the qulaity right now, but a friend of mine who is looking to getting a DVD burner for his PC says they are going for around $500-600. The discs were $40 a piece but now they have come down to around $10 or so.

I wouldn;t buy one yet as there isn't a standard. The popular ones are DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, and DVD + RW. They need to make up their minds so I can buy one.

I wanted to say HI, too!

I don't have a ton of know-how, but I may be of assistance to the "simple minded" AFer! *lol*

I am definately NOT a guru, but computers/electronics/technology is always growing, and I'll be here to watch. :flash:

The good DVD recorders cost a bundle the real cost is in getting the DVD's to burn on. Those are almost $40 a pop.

Well, a DVD burner is 800 canadian right now. I would wait (you know about computers, so you can install one. Its not hard at all). In about 6 months they should be cheaper, and you don't seem urgent to get one.
