gear recomendations

Hey guys, new to the sport, got handed my Dad's old 1982 Yamaha XS650 Heritage Special, a seemingly awesome first bike, great sporty cruiser. Anyway, I wanted to know what are some good, reasonably priced gloves and mesh jackets to look at, and how much and where can I get them. I already own a helmet so no worries there. Thanks

I know I sound like a damn salesperson, but the Fieldsheer mesh jackets are AMAZING... they have TONS of padding to kinda help compensate for the lack of solid material.

NO, not First Gear. Their mesh ranks #2 with me, but I sold my firstgear to buy Fieldsheer. Run a google search on them. You may have to find a distributor.

Re: gear recomendations

Leather is always best, but there's no doubt about it... leather can be HOT. Perforated leather isn't as bad as "solid" leather in terms of ventilation.

Re: gear recomendations

would that be second to solid leather protection-wise?

Not necessarily. A good company's perfed leather will be pretty much the same as their solid leather. MANY MANY 1-piece race suits are perfed for comfort.

Re: gear recomendations

There's always "textile", but it still won't hold up as well as hide... whether perfed or solid/vented. Textile is sorta 1 step-up from mesh b/c it's all man-made, but it's not "holey".

Re: gear recomendations

Perforation is all over the whole "body" of the gear. The vented/solids are solid leather (no holes) with zippered mesh-inserted vents in the arms and back (usually)
