Road race is not street racing.

Track/Twisties - 350Z.

Mustang GT VS 350Z Track, depends on the drivers.

I meant to say straightline drag. Those pony V8s can really pull.

Yes, I do own a Z32 ('90 300ZX Non-Turbo 5 speed).

A lot of people like to use the term track for both the drag strip and the road courses. So to avoid confusion I prefer not to use the term track.

So yes by road race i was refering to the track, and yes the Z will dominate in the twisties.

Re: 350Z vs Mustang GT 2000

The 350Z in my opinion wins both, I believe with the best of drivers and the strongest of GTs, the Mustang GT can accelerate as quickly through the 1/4 mile, but in most cases the 350Z would consistently beat the Mustang GT at a drag strip. I see it all the time at the drag strip, most Mustang GTs run mid to high 14s stock (I know it has the potential for lower and some do get lower, but I'm just telling you what I see at 4 different drag strips all the time). A race course would heavily favor a 350Z, even a course with long straights, both cars would be close on the straights, but the 350Z would enter and exit corners with much more speed. The 350Z is just a superior car to the Mustang GT in my opinion.

ya, those z cars are badass in twisties no doubt... in the quarter mile itll come down to the drivers but with the heftier price tag u get a finer tuned engine and a bit more luxury 350z which sounds nice and all but the mustang v8 is farely untuned and can be tuned to produce a lot of power for pretty cheap (a bit cheaper than the z from wut ive heard)... depends what ur lookin for, a project or a a stock road racer, if its handleing ur interested in get the 350z or wait a year for the new cobra which prolly wont handle quite as well but with irs and 125+ extra ponies u wont be able to tell the difference...

If you're really interested in handling, and can give up some power and torque, try the RX-8. I daresay it handles even better than the Z, it has a usable backseat, and it's a couple grand cheaper.

The reason the Z isn't cheap to mod yet is because it's still in development...give it time. Look at the Z32TT aftermarket...it's HUGE and, as a whole, pretty affordable.

Why anyone would consider getting a Mustang is beyond me. They're ungodly plain, you see trillions of them, and they're nothing special performance wise. The only thing they have going for them is that they're cheap...but...like that other dude said, you get what you paid for.

2004 GT:

Drag Coefficient (the lower the better, in case you didn't know): .36 (brick)
Curb weight: 3280
Hp: 260
Tq: 302
Rear end: Live axle
Lat acceleration: .82g
0-60: ~5.5
1/4: low 14s

2004 350Z:

Drag Coefficient (the lower the better, in case you didn't know): .29
Curb weight: 3225
Hp: 287
Tq: 274
Rear end: ind rear
Lat acceleration: .89
0-60: ~5.5
1/4: low 14s

The Z would definately win in the twisties and it would be VERY close on the strip.

wut i was commenting about was from the factory the mustang is fairly untuned where as the z is tuned pretty well stock from factory...look at hp vs. litres. thats one of the reason the mustang is cheaper. and as far as them being plain... i dont consider them plain but ya definately in need of a facelift which they got for 05 and the 05 is far from plain.

Well, how easy is it to tune up the SOHC 4.6L V8 in the 2004 GT?

Here would be an example of the two cars:

AF's own Vortech S/C 350Z makes 376WHP

A Vortech S/C 99+ GT's(4.6 2V) make 400+RWHP(411 is 1 magazine's tested number)
