Cadillac vs Mustang

Cliff notes at the bottom.

Some friends and I decided to go out to the local street races tonight. It was only my second time, and my first with a car. I was all excited and ready to have some fun.

I called up my friend and told him to come so we could run. He’s got a stock ’00 Mustang GT. So when he got there we lined up and got ready to get those engines roaring. I had him by a bumper or more from the start, but he started to pull on me in first, and going from 1st to 2nd he jumped about a car. The track is shorter than ¼ mile so I didn’t get to 3rd gear, but I don’t think it would have mattered.

I asked him if he wanted to run again, and he said sure. So we line up again and this time I roast the tires or about a second and by the time I’ve got traction he’s pulling on me hard. He ended up beating me by a little more than a car.

I wanted to race somebody else, but the cops broke it up. I had fun tonight, even though I lost twice. I’m putting out 300hp at the crank and he is putting out 260hp. Both have a 4 speed automatic transmission, and I weigh about 800 pounds more than him. I didn’t think weight had that much of an impact, oh well.

I was driving a stock ’02 Cadillac Eldorado ETC.

Cliff notes:
Lost twice by a car to a ’00 Mustang GT

Weight has some part to play but it's a Cadillac. It was not designed to launch and shift(auto) for racing but for ride comfort. Now although the Mustang GT suspension and auto are def not rockin race set-ups they are way more in favor than what the Cadillac was designed for.

800 pounds can certainly make a difference. Though its not the end all, it is a factor and its not just the weight difference, but the weight as a ratio to the weight of the car that is quite high.

The gearing and suspension of the Caddy are not designed to launch hard and compete with the likes of a Stang GT from a dig. Challenge your friend from a 50km/h roll and it'll be alot closer as the Caddy has good high gears for freeway/highway....that'll give better results for you.

Re: Cadillac vs Mustang

I guess losing by a car isn’t too bad, considering it’s a luxury car, not sports. This was my first race from a dig, all the other times (all 3!) where from a 40mph or more roll. I just expected to do better, but I should have known better. I’ll try my luck from a roll next time.

Good Call.

Go from a roll against the Mustang and i think you'll be much more pleased with the results of that encounter.

Yeah I say the Stang will have 3 cars on it by 95 mph from a 70 roll

LOL, i don't think the gap will be THAT big, certainly the Stang will still win, but it'll be alot closer.
