Stopping the 2002 Ranger

Ford Motor Company will issue an emergency stop demonstration and sale order (02S32) which will affect all 2002 Ranger models equipped with the FX4 package and a manual transmission.

The 2002 Rangers may experience a rear axle failure which can occur under a high load. This can happen when customers accelerate rapidly from a stop or where a spinning tire suddenly gains traction (ice/snow/wet pavement). Customers may hear a clunk or grinding noise indicating a possible rear axle differential fracture which if not repaired may result in axle lock up.

Ford will notify dealers that they must IMMEDIATELY stop demonstrating and selling all 2002 Rangers with the FX4 package and manual transmission.
