Question 5.4 in a 99-04 Mustang?

I came across a mustang website yesterday that mentioned Supercharged 5.4L V8.. as far as I know that engine is only used in HD trucks for hauling.. My question is, is it possible to put a 5.4 in a Mustang? and if so is it worth the effort, or would I be better off sticking to a 4.6 upgrade? (my car's a 3.8 vert)

Re: 5.4 in a 99-04 Mustang?

5.4 V8's come in top end Falcons in Australia but i believe they use them in F series trucks. If u could get ur hands on a BOSS 290(aus 5.4) from AUS u could blow the doors off anything with it.The 5.4 puts out 290Kw in the Australian version which is a shit load. But if u live in America the BOSS 290 isn't avalible at all, keeping in mind that in AUS u cant get the 290 in crate motor form.Anyway thats my little ramble....

Yes you can put 5.4/ 5.4S/C motors in Stangs but it's a lot of time and $$$$.

I probably could find a way to get a BOSS 290 in the states.. Probably thru EBay, and shipped DHL. But 290Kw? converted to Horsepower in the USA 290Kw = almost 390Hp!
The SVT Cobra comes stock at only 305Hp... and the Supercharged 5.4 in American F-series trucks is about 380Hp.
You're right about it being a shit-load of power, but the cost to have it imported and installed would be ungodly.

Re: 5.4 in a 99-04 Mustang?

yeah every man and his dog would be converting their old falcons with the BOSS 290 but they arent sold in crate form. The only possible way to get 1 would be cut one one out from a wreck or buy the falcon just 4 the engine.but i hope they come in crate form soon. And ford Australia is planning to reintroduce the GT-HO which used to have a 351c in but the modern GT-ho would be a supercharged 5.4 producing in the league of 310Kw+.So heres to the future of falcons!

You don't need a 5.4 to make power. Shit, people are cracking 600 RWHP on pumpgas with 4.6 2V motors! With a 4.6 4V toss in some good rods and pistons and you have a 1000+ horse foundation. Bolt on a Novi2K or a T-trim or an F1 procharger and 600+ to the tires is practically a cakewalk.

My bad.. I was looking up info on a website on Mustang's history and wasn't paying attention to the year the 305hp Cobra was made...

That would be my dream swap in my 99 3.8L. Maybe even bore to 351. I love the 281's but if i'm gonna spend the money on a swap, i'd go bigger and for something nobody else's cousin's got.
