Post Ceramic Turbo Upgrade

Okay so i came across this on a site the other day:

"What holds back the RB20DET is the Ceramic turbine wheel, the ceramic wheel is easily damaged by debris in the exhaust manifold or can become unbalanced and detach from the shaft. Ive seen this happen on a RB26DETT GTR!!! So please limit your boost.

The limit is a bit clouded, staying under 14psi is commonly agreed to be safe, but you will hit pinging problems before 14psi. Garret offer a conversion to steel turbine and at the same time change the internals to T3 spec, while keeping the stock compressor housing, Ive been told its about $1200. RB20DETs running this mod have dynoed up to 270hp at the wheels."

Has anyone gone with this upgrade? Does it sound like a good idea if i'm after around 200Kw's at the wheels? I already have a HKS pod, 3" exhaust and intercooler. I'd need a larger fuel pump (maybe a GT-R one) and an aftermarket ECU. But what about the injectors could i leave them in there? And Air Flow Meter ???

Uhmmm i doubt youd need new injectors.... im not an expert but this would be my suggestions for you.

New fuel pump... Bosch Motorsports one... (better than a GTR one!)
Fuel Pressure Regulator, Possibly new ecu.. ( if your going to get an ecu... get a complete wire in system such as a Link Plus.. or similar as you get rid of your air flow meter and replace them with map sensors! )

That should do the trick... but personally... id get a different upgrade.. shop around to turbo specialists before you make a dead set decision!

hmm, I've been looking around but i'm on a budget. Most just say put a HKS2835 on and run XYZpsi. While I think these types of upgrades suited to godzilla's not the 32 gts-t. To keep costs down i was aiming for the most amount of power but without having to change the injectors and spend big $$$ on modifying manifolds etc. Do you think it would be possible to attain 200rkw from the T3 internals? Any idea's how much boost i'd need?

I guess as long as it pins me back in my GTR seats i'll be happy

200rkw is piss easy

Put t3 internals in your standard turbo... bosh motorsports fuel pump (same one used in porsche 911). fuel pressure regulator (set to 1 bar), front mount, maybe a new computer and 2 bar boost ))

hehe itl do more than pin you in your seats.... itl extract some poopies too!

turbo upgrade

200kw

use the RB25DET turbo rebuld it with the a t3 core and a 50.9 compressor wheel this should make 200kw easy at about 1bar boost
compressor wheel part no# 442293-15

we have had the standed 47mm compressor wheel make 180kw on a stock GTS-T

Any idea's if it would bolt up to the rb20 existing manifold? That 180kw sounds very impressive at 1bar. Do you think the turbo would handle like 17 or 18psi....If so i might onto something! thx

Well, I already have intercooler tube and fin 600x300, exhaust, HKS pod, 6 injectors from 20B cosmo, and Bosch motorsport pump. Of couse before i start mucking around with boost i'll do the necessary upgrades to ecu etc. A HKS 2540 would be nice if i could be my hands on one? I'm in Brisbane so far the best price new is $4200 new. They seem to be very rare second hand. Anyone know where i could get them any cheaper?

interesting, thx for that. What would you guys think of a 2540 on there? It's a straight fit! I'd imagine that it wouldn't be too laggy and that it could hold a lot of boost? (many tell me that it's nothing to run one at 1.5bar) Do you guys think it would be better to part with the cash and be done?

i use a cheaper alternative the turbo from the single turbo vg30 det mine has a steel wheel and can make around 180-190 rwkw and bolt straight on its non ballbearing though.
quite torquey I wouldn't go much bigger with out doing injectors and afm I have made 160 rwkw @ 11 psi.
its nice the turbo cost $350 aus

what i aimming is 200hp at wheel.
