Residents and fighting for your country.
I don't believe this has been brought up before, if it has ignore it.
The US has a policy of allowing residents to join the armed forces and fight and or die for our country (US). But after they serve their tour of duty they are still residents. Shoot, I think, if you are willing to fight and possibly die for our country then why shouldn't the government grant them citizenship in return for doing so. Whats your take on this members.

Absolutely, for combat-duty troops only though. I say if you're willing to take shrapnel for America at McDonald's wages, it's the least the country can give back to you.

Re: Residents and fighting for your country.
True, back in the late '60's many young Canadians signed on with the US Army to fight in Vietnam. They were welcomed but never received any special consideration regarding citizenship

All that is required is that they apply for citizenship. Some of the people fighting may not want to become citizens - so it has to be their choice.
Now we can debate the fact that getting citizenship is such a pain in the ass, but thats a different story.
