Help...Read all sticked and not enough Info New Bike

Hello I am new to this board. I read alot about all the first time bike's and such. But I have a few ?'s.

I want a Bike for street riding. I am looking into a bus but insurance is like 6K a year. So this is my problem. I have never had a bike yet. But have operated a few. just never owned. I also weigh about 310# actually more like 306 but... I want to know what is gonna get moving fast enough with my arse on it. should I look into a 750? or just an 1100 or stick with the 1289/1300 BUS???? If you know anyone selling a used bike post it here I am in Ohio.

Jason

Others will probably recommend 600 CC bikes in your case, may be the new F4i. Or even cruisers, sport tourers, or Harleys. But nothing above 600-650 cc I bet....

I am an old newbie myself, very close to getting the bike at the right, affordable price. But, even I don't think you read everything correctly if you still want to get a Hayabusa as your first bike.

Hey dude... I am no motorcycle guru or anything but a Busa is a lot for a first bike... but none the less I don't think that you would be that bad off with even a 600cc bike that is if it feels comfortable to you... i mean roughly 660 lbs (your weight and bike) with over 100 hp if you get a newer model and shit you should have plenty of get up and go. But if you do want something a little more i wouldn't go above 750... that is unless you need a bigger bike for a more comfortable ride. But any way it goes just mind your limitations and you should be fine on any bike.

Contradict me if I am wrong... just trying to help out.

Later.

it also depends on your height man. initially i wanted to start off with the ninja 250, but found myself too tall in it for optimum comfort. many of the expert riders here with great track skills started on various 250 themselves, some of these 250s were even regular streetbikes/cruisers.

Hon, I've got a friend about your "size" and he fits on a 600 JUST FINE. Look at the F4i for starters. Also, I hate to say it, but try sitting on a GSX-R600. They tend to have a "bigger" feel to them.

At that size, you're probably not going to be comfortable on a supersport. Try a Suzuki Bandit 600. If you still want a little more pull, you can always change the sprocket gearing.

For a first bike, a 1000+cc bike is like giving a 15 year old a Ferrari; it's just a death wish.

Also make sure to set aside at LEAST $500 for gear.

Wait wait wait, if you know how to drive a manual proficiently, I think it's cool for 15 year olds to take it easy on their Enzos, or even McLarens. lol. As long as they take it easy, which hardly anyone ever does. And I am sure there are probably 15 year olds in the world with Ferraris. In cars, especially Ferraris, chances are you'll survive the fatality, thanks to its carbon fiber shell. With motorcycles, it's completely different story.

Not to preach, but I am 5' 11", I'd probably end up getting the Ninja 250 despite the inadequencies. The less the power, more the forgiving the bike is, more the chances are for a newbie to survive. If you operated the clutch in cars, I am sure you'd notice it jerks as you release it and push the gas in first gear. In the beginning for me, it stalled, jerked, jumped, and the car completely stopped after going into an ABS lock (I also drive a 300ZX, it has a built-in safety protocol). So it's all about good timing, judgement, and sometimes instincts.

Now imagine... learning how to do that in a Hayabusa or even a 750... no doubt the bike will spit the rider out...

hey thanks for the info I will take this all into consideration when I am looking. I am 5'11" and weigh around 306#. I have large shoulders and legs,<thigh> I am not fat but strong. my worry was I would out weigh a 250. I am looking into the 750's now. the bus was to much for insurance but hey Speed does not kill; it's the sudden stop that will get ya. I race cars and love speed. My folks said I will kill myself oneday but hey I am very safe. I am gonna get a street/sport bike and then just trick it out. I am not sure but if I mentioned it but i am 28<_>29 in august. thanks again. If anyone has any bikes for sale let me know. I will pick up from the lower 48 states

it really doesn't matter what your age, weight, or height is, bikes still have lots of raw power. tweak the suspension, and you're good to go. what matters in the bike world is skill and experience. if you could fit into a 250, it still can pull you quite good. problem is, not too many people do fit in ninja 250 or they dislike the looks, that's why they look at bigger displacements. I am sure if you get a 600 CC that fits/suits you well, you'd get your sufficient adrenaline. however, it's not the best mindset IMO for a beginner. you really shouldn't crank full throttle on the first day trying to run 10's. motorcycles really are different than draggin' in cars.

Getting a 750 as a new rider is almost the same as 1 liter. And please, if someone states otherwise: just because you had easy time learning on it and did not crash... yet, don't automaticly assume any other novice would be this lucky as well.

I think you could be missing one minor point. your 'size' may require a 'larger' bike and it would certainly affect the characteristics of a 250 but it's all about learning to ride. sure your age may say that your 'responsible' but it very easy to f@k up while learning and it will happen at a higher speed on a larger bike. please listen to whats being advised by all.we are here to help.

oh, as for purchasing bikes, look up cycletrader.com or go to each respective manufacture sites and click to locate a dealer. once you go to a dealer or something, try to get the used ones.

Re: Help...Read all sticked and not enough Info New Bike

sv650s plenty of power for a starter and can tweaked later on due to large amounts of aftermarket suppport, to ride with the big boys. or if you dont want to trick it out trade it up for a bigger one.
i have one and it was the best choice i could have made. ecspecially when i had to lay it down due partially to some idiot who pulled out in front of me and my high speed. the nice thing about the bike is that it only costs about 500 to fix thanks to its lack of plastic. when you lay your busa or 750 gixxer over you will cry( i did and it doesnt have half the plasticas those bikes) and not because of how bad you hurt(if you live) but how much it is going to cost you to replace the plastic, parts and get body work done.

oh and for all the people who hate "punk kids on sportbikes" i want you to know that i did not turn it in to my insurance company because i wanted to fix my mistake and not make you all pay for it.
