Need Better Brakes
I need better brakes for my lude b/c i'm upgrading the engine and i figure i need to upgrade the stopping power as well. I have ordered 17" wheels so a big brake kit wouldn't be a problem to fit on the car. I was looking for opions and links to products to i could make a final decision. Only thing i could really find was an AEM brig brake kit but is that the best thing i can do?

The only one of those companies that i found that had stuff for my lude was baer. Now there system is about 200 more than the AEM kit. Which do you think is better, taking into account that the baer kit is over 200 more expensive. btw, it's a '93 S.

Your Stock Brakes can be fine. A cheaper method would be some PowerSlot Rotors and some nice pads. You would be suprised how good the car will stop.

Just had Brembo slotted rotors and AEM pads put on front of my 95 Accord EX. I'm in the process of breaking them in but the feel is good. I'll be installing a stainless steel line kit in a couple of weeks.

I just installed some Brembo Blanks and EBC Greenstuff pads. THe stopping power is awesome. Make sure you bed in the pads and discs. It makes a huge difference in the stopping power immediatly. YOu can get the blanks from www.importrp.com they cost me $120 (shipped) for my integra. and www.Tirerack.com can get you either the EBC Greenstuff of Hawk pads for about the same. Then grab a Helms manual from www.helminc.com and you can do it yourself for about $300 instead of 2500 for that big brake kit that is just gonna suck up the horsepower from your new motor upgrades.

I've received several different suggestions on how to bed new rotors and pads. What's the proper method with Brembos and AEMs? I've been told go nice and easy for first 500 miles, then do a series of stops from 80-5mph successively.

I called AEM for suggestions. I got an interesting comment from a "tech" when I asked about bedding new rotors and pads. First he said I probably ruined the pads since I've driven about 50 miles without bedding them. He then stated that I should have not used new rotors with the new pads. He then then stated that the AEM process is to do three hard stops 30-5mph, then three 40-5mph, then three 50-5mph. After the nine stops I should allow the rotors and pads to cool down. He finished the conversation by stating he had no idea how Brembo would want the rotors bedded.
I went ahead and followed his suggestion and did the nine stops. Very nice feel to the brakes when I did the stops. |
