A completed Ferrari 550 Maranello

Why oh why can't Tamiya, Revell or even Fujimi at this point get me a plastic kit of the 550??? Well the Maisto 1/24 diecast kit will have to do. So, here is mine:





Sanded the Rosso red off, primed with t-237 plastikote white, sprayed with Tamiya silver leaf (3 coats) Tamiya Pearl clear (3 coats) and applied decals and cleared with Tamiya clear (2 coats).
The decals and metal transfers all came from the Tamiya Ferrari 360 Modena kit as well as wheels tires and brakes.
The interior was beige, then sprayed with krylon Semi-flat black. I used red thread for piping on the seats as the interior on the 550's are pretty plain. I think it made it very eye appealing.
Semi gloss on the headlight bezels added to the look of the car instead of being all chrome, which is incorrect anyway.
I had to drill out the spindles so that they would accept the Tamiya wheels. The stance is a little bit too high for me, but with more engineering on my part could be fixed.
I'm very happy with it as it is my most favorite Ferrari with this color combo. Nice for the shelf display.

Very nice. One of my favorite cars, and still pissed that there's no plastic kit. I have the Burago and Maisto versions, someday I'll get around to it. W/my luck, I'll do the conversion, then whammo...Tamiya finally sees religion...

The Modena rims look great on it. Adjusting the ride height will make a world of difference w/this model. The color combo looks good. A local guy (very talented modeler) took the Maisto version and detailed it out the wazoo as if it were a Tamiya kit. He glued in the doors, rescribed the door cut lines, did a whole lot of work to the interior. Diecast really isn't as bad as some make it out to be, as you have proved. A little bit of modeler's TLC goes a long way.

Looks pretty good. May I suggest a little lowering if that is possible? It seems to be a little high one it's wheels...

I did mention lowering it as the stance is too high for my taste as well. Just need a little more engineering on my part.

The rear quarter windows could use some work...

I've got one in the closet. The melted in detail parts look like a real bear to remove for a repaint.

Right on, The rear quarter windows do need more work. You can't see the black I used on them to help with depth.
As for the plastic pieces that are on the car, the reall aren't bad at all. A little cleaning of the flash and everything pretty much pops out and snaps right back in. That's how I did it anyway.
