Question No Brake lights

I have a '94 Explorer XLT and BOTH brake lights are out. I have both taillights, L/R turn signals, 4-way flashers working. I checked the bulbs which looked good, but replaced both of them anyway since the bulb was a little blackish and they still don't work. I do not have the fuse diagram, so I just started taking out 10 and 15 amp fuses to look at and all appeared ok. I did find a previous thread that someone gave the fuse list with numbers and locations. Location #1 is a 15amp fuse for stop lamps, hazard, speed control. I guess this would not apply then since I have the hazards working. The other day my girlfriend took the car through the car wash and said the ABS light came on and she heard a 'strange noise'. The ABS light stayed on a few minutes then went out and has not been on since. I am really, REALLY at a loss here at this point. Does anyone have ANY ideas for me to try? If I have to take this into the shop to have the wiring checked, you know they will rape me big time with a $$$$$$ bill.

Thanks for your anticipated help.......

Re: No Brake lights

I had the same problem with my '94 Explorer Sport: Taillights worked and turn signal worked but no brake lights. I checked the bulbs and amps just like you and then I discovered what it was. On your brake pedal there is a little mechanism type thing that goes bad after a while (as so many car parts do), it's a switch that goes on your brake pedal arm and when you press your brakes it sends the signal to your lights (you can see it easily, there's one cotter pin and a wire to take off). So pluck up your courage, head down to Pep Boys, spend $10 on the brake light switch and then take five minutes of your precious time to install it. Then strut around for the next day because you fixed something on your car, you stud.

Question Not the switch on brake pedal, lamp out module?

the switch is good. THe third brake light still works and I can hear the relay module in the engine bay next to the battery click when my wife steps on the brake. What about the "lamp out module??" Where is it located???
