tranny slippage
ok, i think its about that time...tranny swap. i was gonna wait but i think ide rather swap the aod for the t-5 and go to an aluminum drive shaft. im gonna wait on the h/c/i...and to experiment w/ how much power i WAS missin out on w/ that crap auto. this will be the last auto i ever own in a sprts car! to all of you who have had this swpa done, if i bring all of the parts needed for the swap to the tranny shop, how much do you guys think the labor will be, it doesnt have to be exact but just an est. will be fine.
oh and one more thing, ive started looking for a t5 and i dont have to much knowlege on them. what gear ratio should i look into getting, and what does it mean when they say it is rated at 300ftlbs of torq? is that all teh torq the tranny can take??? and im contimplating whether or not im gonna swap gears before or after the h/c/i...are 3:73 too rough for a manual everyday driver? sorry so long preciate it guys

For the tanny questions, gear ratio depends on what you plan on doing with the car. Drag strip only and/or alot of city-only driving and I would look into 3.73 or 4.10. If you drive highway or want to keep some economy, then consider 3.55 or 3.73. I do almost exclusively highway speed driving and plan on 3.55s. When a T5 is rated at 300lb-ft of torque, that means it can safely handle that much under normal driving conditions without breaking parts. You can break one with a stock Mustang engine if you try while some have gone 11s carrying the front wheels past the tree. Its luck of the draw sometimes. 3.73s are not too rough, but like I mentioned, I wouldnt go any higher than that if you drive frequently of any distance.

I think bout $700-1000 is what your looking at for labor cost. 3.73's with a manual is pretty dealable for an everyday driver even if it's mostly highway. As far as gear ratio in a T-5 kinda depends on what you want to do with the car....

as for the gear ratio it is a typical everyday driver. all in all i would like to end up in the low 13s and if the gods are kind maybe even the high 12s...im not sure if this helps any but i am also concidering the 3 73s

3.73's with a T5 is more then dealable. I have nothing negitive to say about highway driven with 3.73's, and I do it every day, to and from work.
