What exhaust to buy for good sound?

Alright, i think i decided against the cut-out, being that it isn't street legal with bypassing the muffler. I mostly am looking for a big, great sounding exhaust. I keeping getting told Borla by everyone around here, but i don't know. I'd rather not spend a TON of money on it, so the cheaper and better sounding the better. What do you suggest (make a couple suggestions if you can), Thanks.

If I were you, I'd just get the cutout. Bypassing the muffler isn't illegal.
Bypassing the CAT is.

For the past like 2 hours i've been searching around on the net for info on the cut-out vs. catback....well, the cut-out seems the way to go now. I love how it sounds (a friend has it done, he doesn't like it though). Plus if its too loud, or i don't like it i can just cover it and buy new exhaust, at a loss of like $60. And if i like it a guy/company sells kits with remote cover-up thingy for $100 (i think the guy with the cut-out rigged something like that, but the motor broke....maybe we could try again). Plus i guess the only part that could be illegal about bypassing the muffler is the noise, it being really loud, thusly the remote cover-up.

McCord Power Plate is the name of the remote cutout.
A friend of mine has one.
They JUST came out with a new version that isn't supposed to jam up at all.

Personally I love Flowmaster they make great mufflers and they sound awesome plus a cat back system from Summit is around $250-300 way cheaper than Borla. As for cut outs if it's something you drive everyday it will be really loud and you probably won't like it. a nice set of 80 series flowmasters with a high flowing cat will be plenty loud and you won't get pulled over for being illegal.

I agree, You CAN NOT beat flowmaster for value, sounds and quality, i have lots of friends with flowmaster products on their cars, and i plan to put them on my car when i get my camaro, firebird, chevelle, or nova!

Well, other than saving a few hundred bucks, the cut-out also lets me cap it off when i don't want the noise. If its too loud, i can take a cap and drill holes in it so its loud, but not LOUD. I just like the price and versatility of the cut-out, as well as the price. At this point i plan get it done in the next day or 2 if i can find somewhere local that has it (my friend who got it done can't remember the name of the place).

I've been listening to sound clips, and ya flowmasters sound good, so do a few others. The thing is i want to be able to make the car quiet on longer trips, or coming into my neighborhood at like midnight or later. Thats why if i get a cut-out i'll get the remote cover up thing.

I personally DON'T like the sound of Flowmaster on an LS1.
On a Mustang, it sounds great. But Flows on an LS1 I don't like.
A cutout will give MUCH MUCH better performance, and there's always that plate you can throw back on IF it gets too loud for your liking.

Not to mention, you can drive around town with it capped. Sound like a bone stock LS1. Then, when some unsuspecting victim pulls up along side, you can uncap it with the twist of a dial, throw him a rev and watch em run!

Well, i scheduled an appointment to get the cut-out done tomorrow at 3 (i have to haul ass there though, i get outta school at 2:30), and i get to miss my lax practice at 3:30 again, *sigh* oh well.

OHHHH, i did the CAGS mod thing. It wasn't hard after we figured out there is a latch thing holding the connectors together, i LOVE not having skip shift.

Well i got it done, nice clean job, $75 for it all. First impression: OMG its sounds loud.....and AWESOME! Then i calmed down and drove it around for a few hours, and i had this reaction: OMG THIS IS SOOOOO COOL. Lol, i LOVE it. Only thing is my parents told me not to get it done about 3 days ago....but i obviously just did it, and i am trying to keep it hidden for a bit (can you say low RPM's, lol). What makes it hard is i park in the garage, so the sound gets sorta amplified, but i made it in tonight without any questions, so all is fine. I do however wanna get the remote capping thing ($100) so i can just cover it for longer trips, or late at night coming into a neighborhood. Basically, it sounds REALLY great, i LOVE it, it was cheap, and if i get itred of it i just cap it up....i don't see a downside.
