need some advice on a old car

hey guys, well i need some help deciding on a new.. well, old car i came up with these choices and need help narrowing down the search, since the cars are rather old, not sure how easy they are to mod (would be a biiiig bonus if you could though since thats my intent) anyways, these are the cars and the prices are in canadian, since this is the racing forum, figured you'd guys would be the best bet on figuring out which ones worth it

im not picky about the comfort at all, as long as it has a steering wheel and chair im happy :P my main hope for it is that it can have some power off a stand still

The Porsche 944. It's handling is superior, one of the best handling cars of all time. You've got the look already, and the Prosche name brings you confidence which is going to help you appreciate all the car has to offer.

As far as tuning it, i'm hoping flywsi, Polygon, Redneck or one of those guys will be able to help you there, their knowledge of these things is unmatched. Try asking in the Porsche forum about things to look for on the car and about mods aswell, they'll certainly know a thing or two!! Especially considering the low kms...on a car like that with that kind of kms it's either REALLY been taken care of, or it's had the snot driven out of it when it's in operation.

My suggestion is the 944, it's alot more money, but will be well worth your dollar.

Not for street racing!
The suspension and brakes are almost unlimited in the amount of modifications you can do.

The engine is another story. If you want to modify the engine AT ALL, I'd suggest you start out with a turbo. The turbos engine is extreemly modifiable up to 500HP. With a turbo you would have an excellent base for mods. With lots of $$$ you can maybe pull 250HP out of an N/A. Finding mods for an N/A is nearly impossible too.

alright, thanks for the adivce, just want to get this straight, a N/A is the base line right? like just a 944, not a 944 s or turbo or anything right?

and are there any better years then others? heard a '87 was pretty good comparing to the... '86 i think? taking into account a 944 turbo, not the base line

Yes, the N/A is the naturally aspirated non turbo base model.

In 88 there was a change in the engine and suspension resulting in better control and more HP stock.

The turbo was rebadged the Turbo S for 88 and the turbo S parts became standard on the 89 turbo

It's very easy to use say an 86 turbo and bring it to 88 specs and beyond. The 88-89 models are a bit rare and unless you are looking to keep it stock, buy a cheaper earlier one. The biggest thing to look for on these cars is maintenance history. If the PO has no records, run away.

Out of these choices for modding I would go with the Porsche 944 but spend they extra and get the a turbo version. Lot of easy mods and good hp for those cars.

Oops, my bad...guess i was assuming the thing already had a turbo! Sorry bud, absolutly get the turbo model...from what i understand it's REALLY hard to work with a 944 that doesn't have the turbo already in it.
