Ford Software

Every now and then when I go to one of the local tracks, I see owners (just a few serious ones) of Gm and various imports tuning their rides with a laptop....However, I have never seen Ford (Particularly Mustang) owners with the setup. I'm wondering if software exists for Ford models and in fact have had conflicting stories from both Ford and students from a local technical institute....The dealerships say they don't know what I'm talking about...and the students say it IS available but only sold to certified technicians....Anyone know if tuning software is available for my '03 stang because I would really like to learn more about it and start using it.
Thanks

Probably just a data logging program, but I've never heard of it before. Next time you're at the track and see a person with it, don't be afraid to ask them about it.

Well actually I have asked....but not being ford owners they are not sure if similar software is available....and the software they use does quite a bit...just to name a few....advances or retards timing, adjust f/a mix, shift points for autos, calibrates gearing....etc. It just connects from the laptop into a terminal in the car and I am assuming reflashes the onboard computer. If i remember correctly, one guy told me it was an obdi terminal...he said there were two generations of the terminals....and he was sure that mine had the second generation as do all cars after a certain year.
And thanks for your input

Like I said, I don't know much about it, but glad to help. You might try contacting the company that makes it just to see if it would work for a Ford. If it won't work for a Ford, I'm sure they could always tell you where to find software that would work.

There are plenty of things made for Mustangs that do what you are talking about and they have been out since the EFI 5.0 days.

I don't know if it's the same thing that you're talking about, but a stand alone ECU would do all that, and they're pretty much universal if you can do some wiring

Well, I've approached some of the peeps I've seen using laptops at particular tracks that I race, and I have even tried some ford dealerships....the dealerships tell me there is no such software and that their onboard computers cannot be directly manipulated...dunno if that is true because a couple of students at a local technical institute tell me that there is software however it is only sold to certified techs. Right now I have the Diablo sport chip installed...and they wont sell me a writer because they don't sell them to individuals...they only supply their dealers with them...and Diablo tells me that the chips can only be reflashed a certain amount of times anyway. Right now I don't really need one....I'm running a 100 shot wet system from NX....but I plan on installing a Procharger from ATI and with their 11 lb. pulley (the one I want) I will need to tweak the computer a bit. ATI swears the 7 lb. pulley is just a "Install and go" system....but who wants small when the engine will handle BIG lol.
Integra06 had some good advise earlier...and when i go back to the track and see these guys using their shit, I should just ask who the maker is and contact them directly to see if they know anything....
just seems that some of you peeps are knowledgeable and since I stumbled onto this forum during a search....I thought I might as well use the resource.
Thanks for your response any and all help is appreciated.

Well I have been told that the ECU from the factory cannot be written to....If you are suggesting replacing mine with an aftermarket ECU, well I'm game....can you do it (lol) because wires and me do not get along...I can use a computer....I know basic principles of mechanics...and I can drive.....Electrical....F---that =)

You should be able to find a shop that will tackle it. They're not cheap, but they give you far more control than some added on to factory mess.

Re: Ford Software

I own a 2003 Mustang I want info about Ford/Mustang stuff yet I post here in street Racing Forum. Strike 1

Diablo, Autologic, Superchips can all make chips that alter the computer's functions. But yet you insist on people at a Ford Dealership who tell you the exact opposite... LoL Strike 2!

Ok...
1. It has been my experience that street racers are quite serious about their rides and very knowledgeable....that is why I post here among other places. If i may only post recent races i have witnessed or been apart of....then my bad and you're right "strike 1"
but not everyone here is following your strict protocol.

2. I do run a Diablo Delta Sport at present and it is the only chip i can run with the bottle....because i can retard my timing on the fly (at least the only one I have found) when i want to use the nitrous. And Diablo has told me personally that it can only be reflashed a few times before a new chip is needed. I want to stay away from having to buy new chips continuously. In addition...I was pointed to Ford by a couple of students that are studying to be mechanics or "Technicians" as they are now called. So that "Strike" is negated heh.

3. And lastly....I made the terrible mistake in assuming that if you knew anything other than that are several products out there since the efi 5.0 days that you would offer up some specifics...but you did not. If anything that would be a "strike" against you.

And btw....I truly hope that your LS1 info is regarding stock vehicles against stock vehicles....in that instance, I would tend to agree with you....otherwise....you would be incorrect.....then again almost anything that has been modified could beat any stock ride...if modified correctly right?
Actually I like the LS1....and I like GT's.....funny thing is....I'm always looking at them (when they are stock) from my rear view mirror lol.
Peace.

Cool...now all I need are some names of companys making these products. Thanks for the input....the shop that does all my work hasn't offered-up any aftermarket ecu ideas....then again I havent asked...they only agree that the factory ecu cannot be written to ergo the chip....even diablo says that.....and they havent mentioned other companies (possibly because they want to sell me more chips lol)....only that their predator will only write to GM and I believe possibly dodge...I may be incorrect with the dodge.
Thanks alot! the search continues.

Thanks for the input but all so far (that I have found) say that they cannot write to the stock ecu.....I may have to do what ldelaysionl suggests and replace mine with an aftermarket unit....then get software for it....then again....perhaps the aftermarket companies making these ecu's write software for their units....hmmmm.
Thanks
