Got a knock on the door 10mins ago which has made me post this thread.

Now i dont want to piss any people here that are religious...thats your bussiness, but what really pisses me off is when bloody MORMON'S turn up at your house and want to start ramming there bloody veiws down ya throat. If i wanted to be a Mormon or be religious i'd go to church on a frickin Sunday So i very nicely asked them to piss off.

Maybe i should go knocking on there doors with all my family and bro's and tell them to became a petrolhead like me and start ramming my veiws down there throats.

yeah I have no problem with people being religious but I hate being preach to and told I'm going to hell because I don't believe in god.

As far as they are concerned, they are preaching to the devil himself because I'm not going to join them.

I am Christian and I agree with you. I know I have my flaws and am not perfect, so I have no room to tell everyone 'Turn or burn'. The Bible says to "spread the good news" but it does not say shove it down people's throats and knock on every door.

My way of "witnessing" if ya wanna call it that, is if someone is interested in the way I believe, I will let them come to me and ask questions and do my best to answer. But I cannot go telling people how they should live when I have my own sins

The other hard part is that Mormons (and other religions) want to get into a debate on why they are right. And a lot of them cut you off, interupt and just become more of a thorn in the side. I guess many believe if you are aggressive and pushy enough it will convince people you are right.

But with the way some people (any religion) push their beliefs and get too pushy, I can see why others don't want to respond to it.

Yeah thats a pet hate of mine too.

Actually had quite a good visit from the local minister once, he had a survey for me to fill out. It asked sorts of question like what sort of activities would get me along to the local church, and what currently puts me off going to the church. Stuff like that. It was a nice change from having books waved in my face.

Let me first say that I'm a Christian. But for giggles, one time I expounded on the virtues of atheism for about 30 minutes to two Jehovah's Witnesses. They left, somewhat bewildered.

I have to agree with Kat. I'm Christian, and yes, our beliefs are quite a lot different from Mormon's/JW's, despite what they try to lead you to believe. Like Kat, I'll do my best in the way I act to let people realize I'm different, and if they have questions, I'm certainly open to them. But I get pissed off at the Mormon's/JW's as well. I've already looked into their religion and seen what they believe, and decided against it. To me, they are just like people that would come and literally push me into buying a Lada, when I've already decided against it. I also would have no problem at all with them if they simply knocked on the door, asked if I would like to know more about their religion, and depending on my answer, continued, or politely said "Thanks for your time", turned around and walked away. Instead, they shove their foot in your door, and refuse to leave. I swear, one of these days I'm going to report them for harrassment, or even trespassing if even half of their foot comes into my house unwelcome.

Problem is, it's always a win win situation for them. If they convert you, hooray. If they get shuned, they are being persectued for their beliefs, which to them also = hooray.

The only way you can really win is to do what my pastor does: politely invite them in, give them coffee, then stump them/prove them wrong Most of them REALLY know their stuff though, so you basically have to be a pastor/missionary in order to know enough to stump them...
