57 Chevy 'Sport Roadster' progress

Classic AMT "3 in 1" kit.

Shown mocked up with the Pegasus 'Phat Boyz' wheels I'm using.

Chassis has molded in exhausts, for my project those had to go, so...

The exhausts were filled from the other side with putty.

Then ground off with a motor tool and finished with some fine sandpaper.

I'm in hot water now!
The body had a bit of a twist, so 4 mins in 170F water did the trick.
You may also notice the roof is gone. Well, I did say "roadster".

Now for the "sport"!

Terrible accident or calculated plan?

Here's "Sporty" mocked up again...

The pieces in the foreground are those removed from the body and chassis. A foot and a half in scale...

Re: 57 Chevy 'Sport Roadster' progress

Yes, indeed!
Isn't the top of the rear wing a little too close to the windscreen? What will you do of the "V" it makes with the front wing? Will it be filled, moved back, or stay like this, in the middle of the door? I must admit I've no opinion about this, the overall shape of the car is so pleasant, but I'm a little worried about the doors "cut" (lines...)...

Dang. Looks like this is going to be a great build. You've cut quite a bit off. Keep us posted on how the build goes.

Thanks for the encouragement!

The 'notch' in the side profile is my biggest problem area. I am hoping to modify the rear deck to resemble the style used in '50's and '60's Corvette roadsters. I was also hopeing to use the notch to define the forward edge of that component but as it stands it simply is to far forward.
The windshield frame is chopped about 3 scale inches, more may be better though. The windshield contour changes from the bottom up, so fit becomes a big restraint.

Re: 57 Chevy 'Sport Roadster' progress

Cool. I'm also working on a 57' Chevy. Monogram kit with 454 dropped, and a 2 link rear suspension. The car is looking great. BTW, what'd you use to grind out the molded in exhausts? I have a dremel, but not sure what bit or accessory is best.

Molded in exhausts were removed with a cut off wheel for the rough cuts and several different engraving cutters for the fine work.

!Work slowly and wear safety glasses!

Re: 57 Chevy 'Sport Roadster' progress

Thanks Ferrari TR. I'll give that a shot when I start my 57 from AMT.

Woah that is a cool idea! I also didn't know of those plans for removing molded on exhaust and how to de-warp bodys. I might give it a go on my 94 impala, it was warped from the begining.
