Question Need help on possiable new car!!!!!

I've been checking out what my area has to offer for uses Foxes. I've been looking for either a coupe or a T-top car. Today I came across a 91 LX in pretty damn good shape compared to what I have been looking at. Car has a 108k miles on the body which is mint, Pro 5.0 shifter, shorty headers, o/r h-pipe, Mac mufflers and underdrives as it's only mods.

Now here's the catch, it was a 4cyl to V8 conversion. Everything has been switched over except for shocks, struts and springs. It has a 8.8" rear with 2.73's (yuck), mass air 302 HO motor, T5 tranny, brand new clutch, Pro 5.0 shifter, Pony wheels with Falcon 245/50/16's with good tread. Motor has a slight valvetrain tick, but that's OK because the motor will come out if I do buy the car. Body is near perfect, all straight, no dents or dings. Just 2 very very small rust spots that has just started to for on the passengers side by the wheels, but not through the paint.

Guy as it advertised for $5,000, but said it's very negotiable. I thought about offering him $3,000 in hopes he'll bite or at least come back with $3,500. He did mention that he has had people look at it, but no one liked the fact it was a V8 conversion car, so I think he's will take a lower offer such as mine.

Here's a couple downsides I didn't like. Red interior, but I can live with that, and it has no AC. It has the controls on the dash for AC, and the AC core in the dash, but nothing else. How hard do you guys think it would be to pick up all the parts from a junk yard and install? Compressor, condenser, evaporator, and all lines. It does have the wiring for the evaporator, but no wiring for the compressor from what I remember.

Please I need help on this decision guys!!!!!!

You need AC, you big sissy

If I am sellin a car, and someone tries to low ball me too much, it gets to me. I would start off with at least 3200. With shape the car is in, sounds like its a good buy, but with the T-Tops, I hope you plan on stiffining up that chassis on that bad boy up if you get it.

You could just buy a 4cyl coupe with a nice body and put your motor, trans, rearend, ect. in it.

Buying a V8 converted car scares me personally. Just cause I don't know who did the work and how well it was done... Could end up buying either a death trap or a money pit worse case scenarios... So did you grill this guy about the conversion and do you feel comfortable with him and his automotive skills?

Lastly if it was me and in this area of MA I would not pay a cent over $3,000 for it.

Re: Need help on possiable new car!!!!!

Car is pretty mint Bobby. I checked over everything, and it looks damn good. Only way you can tell it was converted is by the shocks and front sway bar, other then that, everything was taken care of. He did not do it personally. It was performed by a shop who has done many conversions to Mustangs, for the previous owner. I also did a complete carfax on it (have a one month free unlimited use if anyone needs a VIN checked) and it came out clean with 3 owners.

I actually went back today with a buddy to look a it some more. Asked him what he would take and he said 4 grand. I then offered $3500, and he said $3700. I told him I was set with $3500 and if he changed his mind to call me, 3 hours later he took the bait. I hope to pick it up either Thursday or Friday, and will post pics as soon as I do.

I wouldn't consider a car with rust mint for that vintage. Red interior...................gross . Seems like the price is a little to high

Sounds like a good deal, GTstang raises a good question what are you going to do with your GT?

Re: Need help on possiable new car!!!!!

I'm going to keep it for now, see what happens down the road. I will have a very hard time parting with it though. My room mate also said he would buy it off me to keep it in the family so to speak, if I were to sell it.

I have seen the car in person. It is near mint. It was for sale last year in Springfield. I wanted to look at it before I bought my vert, but I heard it was sold. You could never tell it was a conversion with just the naked eye. My friend also looked at it when it was going for $5900 last year. He wanted to buy it but didn't like the fact that it used to be a 4 banger. But he ended up buying a notch that was converted anyway, but for $6,800 (was also mint and came with a GT-40 crate motor installed with only 10,000 miles). Craig, for $3500, you got a deal man. If that car was originally a 5.0, then that guy could have gotton a lot more than $3500 for it. Congrats on the new ride. I am happy for you.
