Things that should be in the next GT...

Well, I'm bored, so I was thinking of things they should add in the next Gran Turismo...

Hmm... lets see...

More Cars - Why did they drop all the old muscle cars they had in GT2? Those were awesome... they could also stop throwing in so many copies of the same car (look at how many skylines are in gt3 :P) They should also add Pontiac as a car maker... I would much rather buy a WS6 Trans Am than a Z28 or SS Camaro I also wanna see some old school cars... like 240 Z's, old Chevy and Ford hot rod types, etc

Engine & Body Damage - Other than leaving this out, GT is pretty realistic... they might as well go all the way and add it in... if you hit a wall going 150 mph... then just throw it into first and drive off, thats a little unrealistic eh? Make it so you can blow your engine by over-revving it... especially on the downshifts, in real life, can you really throw it into second from fifth gear and still have your engine run perfectly? :P

Engine Swaps - This would go perfectly with adding in the old cars... wanna throw a V-8 into your Z car? How about a TT Supra or Skyline motor? This is how it should be... totally customizeable

Superchargers - Why can we only add turbos to the cars in GT? If I wanna throw a blower on an old camaro... lemme do it :P

Drag Races - Racing around a track is pretty boring after a while... now if I could keep customizing my car to go faster in the 1/4... well, that might not get so boring...

Alright... forgive me, im extremely bored...

What else should they add in?

I know how you feel
unfortunately sony japan makes this game. they dont know much about muscle cars because its not big at all.
They gave muscle cars a try in GT2 but it was not a hit at all. a lot of people dont even know what a muscle car is over there because they were influenced differently compared to americans.
as for the damage. im pretty sure the car manufacturers dont want to see their licensed cars being damaged. other than that, a good idea. i would like to see them like blow the engine or the bumper almost being torn off while flying sparks everywhere while being scraped on the ground.
as for the supercharger. they are not popular in japan because they are picky about power. to them supercharger and nos are lame, they go for the best thing they can find.
like many people buy wheels which are over a grand for just one, and most cant afford them all so they go on loan at the wheel shops.
as for the engine swap. that is a good idea.

I agree with everything you said. Except that I think that the body damage should be an option. Cause I don't know how long my cars would last. I like to ram other cars and make them spin out.

You have a really good idea with the engine swaps. I mean if you have the mean you can pretty much do anything you want to a car. So why not??

- More realistic braking (no perfect stops just by jamming the anchors) meaning we will need to learn to use the threshold braking technique.

- As said before, more cars. Once you're done with the game, the only replay value comes from the multitude of cars that you wouldn't normally buy to beat the game, but are still fun to drive (i.e. HKS 180SX from GT2).

- More aftermarket firms. Where's Trust, dammit? There were a handful in GT2, but most of the race prepped vehicles in GT3 have "Gran Turismo" graphics plastered all over them. Sort of lame, don't you think?

- Bring back "racing modification", except make it more customizable (some of the paint schemes in GT2 were a little ridiculous).

- New sound effects; i.e. change the blow-off valve sound (the one in Sega GT was nice, sort of sounded like the HKS SSQ).

- Snow/ice and night-time for rally racing. While on the subject of night, make the car's headlight beams actually visible on the road ahead.

- Add the drag racing sideshow that was originally supposed to be in GT2.

- Drifting competition?

- Make automatic transmission weaker than manual (I hate racing this guy I know with identical cars, and since he always uses auto, he gets way more consistent shifts--real automatic cars are slower and don't downshift as swiftly as the auto trannies in Gran Turismo do).

I'll add more later, when I think of some new ideas.

- Something EVERYONE seems to agree on: smarter computer A.I. No more computer cars playing follow the leader all the way to the end.

- Computer opponents during 2-player mode.

- The car body damage is not just a "what-if", but I feel that it's an absolute necessity--in order for the DAMNED computer cars from riding you through the turns. Yes, you can do the same to them, but there are FIVE of them and only ONE of you, and since they move like a train, they can easily pummel you from first, all the way back to sixth place, going through one turn.

- More computer cars in general. Just having six cars on the track keeps it nice and simple, but sometimes it would be nice to have 20 or so cars like in a real endurance race (i.e. Le Mans GT, GT-S, LMP classes all running simultaneously).

- Some CGI/FMV between races for modifications and installations?

- Better music for the U.S. (as always).

- Selectable different sizes for wheels.

- Add paint jobs to the GT Auto. Doesn't even need to be all that fancy, just allow the user to change to a different factory color when you get sick of it. I have quite a few Silvias in GT2 just because I wanted different colors.

- Dashboard view, so you can see the distinct interiors of each car (may be a bit of a tall order for the programmers, but hey, the NFS series has it; it would just take a lot of time and/or man-power to pull this one off).

- ELIMINATE

- THE

- DAMNED,

- GOD-FORSAKEN,

- RANDOM

- PRIZE CARS

my little brother told me you can pick the cars you want in random with the analog pad. if you want the car to the right. then you hold the analog stick to the right.
but the problem is that you dont know what car is what because its black

No, that was only a rumor. Several major gaming publications have denied the existence of this trick. I've tested it out myself (sat there restarting a save right before the end of a series, trying again and again, at least 40 or 50 times), and its only coincidence if it works. It's only 1 out of 4 so there's a pretty high chance that the direction you are pressing will coincide with the car you receive. Some have also said that the square/triangle/x/circle buttons do the same, but that's also untrue.

I tell you, some of the internet game cheat sites should test the submitted tricks and codes before announcing them to the public.

my mistake. my lil brother did tell me the analog thing doesnt work. however he did tell me that their is a way to choose the cars. lets say when the car gets selected on the right car, you have to press the O button exactly when it gets highlighted. im not really sure if the japanese GT3 and the american GT3 is different though

Nope that one doesn't work either. That's actually the first method that I heard of and tried. It's funny because it seemed to work about 4 times in a row, then it just stopped working... Damn game trying to tease us poor saps!

Cool THE ULTIMATE GRAN TURISMO!!!

Wow... all you guys pretty much stole everything i was going to say... EXCEPT... GT4 need to be online... like NEEDS TO BE ONLINE.... if it isn't it would be a major dissapointment for sony and polyphony digital. The best game that the ps2 has online right now is SOCOM (which is damn good), but if sony got Gran Turismo to go online then millions of people who own any of the gran turismos would be wanting to buy this. Imagine racing people head-2-head in realtime, or have like course records that are worldwide. Plus (if sony came out with the harddrive that supports GT) more cars could be downloadable and instatnly the GT car database could shoot up to around 750-1000 cars no joke. If you think about it, (all in speculation) GT4 (the next Gran Turismo) should be 4 discs, arcade, simulation, car, and tuner. Yes a full dvd just for cars (about 500-750) and a full dvd for tuning (license parts from 100's of companies... not just generic turbo... but turbo from HKS or TRUST or GREDDY or who ever you want to get). Now that, combined with internet support would be the ultimate Gran Turismo ever!... i'm just waiting for it to come out

I'm gonna have to disagree with some of what you said. 4 DVD's is wayyy to many. It would piss me off so much if I had to put in a new cd just to buy a car, then another new cd just to tune it, then ANOTHER new cd just to try it out on a track. I'm very happy with the 2 cd's the GT 2 has. I will admit that having it all on one cd like in GT3 is very convinent, the arcade mode takes up extra space that could be used for more tracks/cars/tuning options/technical settings.

I have read that GT4 will probably (99% chance) be online, but they might only take broadband users, sorry 56k. It would be cool if they had different leagues, and world records (good idea on the world records zyajzarc!) for each of league.

They are saying that the game will be out in late 2003 in Japan. I figure that will get pushed back to early 2004 for them, and we might see it here in mid-2004, but that's just my guess. I can't wait for it to get here.

EDIT: They also said that they would like to include more old, classic cars with authentic sounds and handling.
