Well, my brother's ITR got carjacked.

He was selling it as he was going overseas. Put the car in the Trading Post and had a "gentleman of ethnic persuasion" come to look at it. They took it for a run and the guy asked if he could test drive it. My brother hopped out of the driver's seat. As he did so, the guy threw a punch knocking my brother onto the road then slid over to the driver's seat and took off. How the hell you slide over in an ITR I don't know, but in this case the car was gone with house keys etc.

My brother ran home then called the cops - but my guess is that it will have been stripped out by now. Being Army police he had a good look at the guy and remembered details - whether it gets him anywhere or not I don't know.

Amazing that it could happen in the Sutherland district of all places - and just a little scarey that this shit happens. 30 days before the insurance company will do anything about it too, in case it turns up somewhere.

Geeze!!!!

And after we were talking about it last night!!!

Too bad he didn't have fuel cut off, like I do

That would have stopped them in their tracks.

Doesn't matter if my engine is still running, if I cut the fuel off, it will just die.

Yep, it usually cuts off within 30 seconds.

Cool thing is I can unlock my doors remotely if I lock the keys in the car too!

Yes, well for my own safety I got the system, incase anything like that ever happened to me.

It's really common in South Africa. It happened to a friend of mine in '93 with his Corolla RSi (GTi). Two 15 year olds with loaded guns. He got the insurance check and left the country. Sound kinda smilar?Poor guy. Now he has no wheels until he goes. Ah well, as the say in the classics, shit happens.

Yeah - my brother's ok now. A bit shaken and really pissed off - it cost him a fortune in new locks on the house and garage as those keys were on the keyring.

The scarey thing was when he went to the police, the guy on the desk knew the whole scenario already - same guy seems to be doing the area. You'd think the police would set up a sting or something to catch him

heheh - by the time the slushbox gets into second you should be able to run and catch the guy

Check and write down licence details. Switch the engine off before getting out to let someone drive it. Have a friend with you in the back seat "you don't mind if my friend tags along do you" etc.

Heheh - funny thing is my brother is a service police officer in the ARMY and he still got taken down.

dont go alone when u try to sell your car.... and u should take the house keys etc off the key ring...
i think u can actually check (legal) to see if he has a license before u let someone drive ur car.

My alarm. I'll let you know when we meet up, but its not such a good idea to talk about my alarm on the net.

Get some friends together with you for protection, and meet at a common place, such as a Maccas or something. Don't meet at your home.

Deb's sister had their old commodore stolen the day before it was sold. They reckon it was the guy that rang up over the phone, and asked about it. It wasn't the guy that was going to buy it. It was in their garage, with club lock on, and they still broke into the garage, and stole it. They were shocked, because it was a pretty crappy old car.
