ok, heres some baseline info for comparison sake taken from motor trend. anyone with a 3si car will tell you that a 5.4 0-60 time is with a pretty conservative launch.
3000gt vr4 3.0 tt v6/awd/6spd 320hp/315trq 0-60 in 5.4 1/4 mile in 13.5 @ 101.6 .89 g lateral accel camaro ss 5.7 v8/rwd/6spd 320 hp/345trq 0-60 in 5.2 1/4 mile in 13.6 @ 106.5 .87 g lateral accel what do you guys think? jeff ---------- 95 vr4 93 mr2 turbo 91 laser turbo |

The 3000gt vr4 proforms better but I would still rather have a Super Sport Camaro for it's looks.

both cars perform better than the numbers you listed..
the camaro ss is faster, the vr4 handles better.. both cars are easy to mod the ss will make a better drag racer without question the vr4 can be whatever you want it to be, but there are faster ss's than vr4's and thats the plain and simple truth.. in the end.. id take the vr4.. im a mitsubishi fan, and i know all the ins and outs of the car.. not to mention im a BIG fan of turbo's and AWD.. but thats not to say that the ss is a bad car.. different tastes i guess..

I'd go with the SS. "There's no replacement for displacement". Although that's not necessarily true, it does help.
Besides, I prefer the camaro's looks.

I test drove a 3000 once and the biggest thing I noticed was no tilt! It was a pain to drive and a pain to get out of.

I'd probably take the 3000 of the two, but I'd take a ws6 over both of them

The VR-4 performs much better in accel then whats listed. It hits the 0-60 mark in 4.4 seconds not the 5.4. I would take the VR-4 based on looks especially the 1998 model in red.

How aobut, no? That's in the territory of cars like, Z06, 550, M3, 360, Cobra R, Diablo VT, Esprit V8TT, Skyline GT-R, ok you get my point. The VR-4 does 0-60 in about 5.4, that's just an average from different magazines.

didn't no the stats on the 3000gt were so low they talk like it's a vette. But the SS only hundreds of a second faster in the 1/4 then the Z/28. what is the price difference in the cars big point in real life.

the ss is only faster casue of maybe weight reductions
because the so called ram air hood is not functional i checked this out at the dealership the air box is right under the ram air induction but its sealed off on the firebird ram air its a different story u can actually see the filter from the opening in the air box when u pop the hood |

Actually, the SS Ram Air is functional. The air enters the rear of the box that you saw was sealed off, kinda a round about way but still ram air. Goto www.camaroz28.com and ask the guys there if you don't believe me.
As far as which is faster... Well, I know AWD cars can launch like crazy, whereas the SS is a pain in the ass to launch. A 60' time of 2.0-2.1 is good in a SS, while I'm thinking 1.9 or better is not to difficult in a VR4. But, the VR4 is heavier, and I've witnessed stock SS's running low 13s, even saw a Firebird Formula run a 12.92 stock! So I'd say SS for Drag racing, VR4 would probably outhandle, outcorner, etc. it though. Especially in bad weather. Josh |
