pilot bushing removal
I have a '67 mustang with a 200 straight 6cyl along with a 3 speed trans. I have to replace the clutch, which is my first time, I have already removed the tranny and need to replace the pilot bushing, but do not know how to remove it. Any ideas will appreciated. Thanks. rv56

you need a special slide hammer-lookin tool. you can probably rent one at a local parts store. to install the new one you need a special punch.

Re: pilot bushing removal
I have seen old timers remove them by packing them with grease and using a dowel rod the size of the inside diameter of the pilot bearing. After packing, insert the rod and hit it with a hammer, out comes the pilot bearing. Also auto zone sells a puller.

I've done it both ways... the bearing grease trick only works if the input bearing is in good shape. Otherwise you need a bearing puller which is a slide hammer with fingers on the end.
To put in the new 1 just use a socket that will work.
