Question 2001 Aurora Has Loud Whine at 60+ MPH

At highway speed, I get a loud whine which sounds like the rear window, except with a side window open to relieve the pressure, I still get the whine. Think it might be the rear spoiler, but not sure. Any ideas?

Pitch changes upwards, in steps about every 7-10 MPH faster. And its VERY LOUD.

My 2001 is making a similar noise but it does not do it all the time. When it does make this noise, the transmissions also jerks when it changes from 2-3 or 3-4. It's been doing this for quite some time. I hear it may be a defective PC solenoid or PWM solenoid in the trans. Are you having similar problems with your trans when the noise is present?

My transmission is not affected by the noise. After reading some other posts, and traveling on the highway yesterday, I believe it is a sunroof seal. I did not get enought whine to prove it, so I'm not positive, but I'm going to clean the seals and see what happens.

Thanks for the response.

I have a 98 and have noticed a similar noise. Turns out it was the front air dam underneath the car. One corner came loose and was forcing air into the engine bay.

I've heard of headliner/roof/sunroof vibrations on 2001's causing this problem. Might want to take a cruise with a back seat passenger and have them press up on the headliner and see if the noise changes...

My 2001 had a strange humming sound at expressway speed. Turns out is was a bad trunk seal. The bad seal allowed air to leak into the trunk creating the vibrating or humming sound.

Thanks for your input. However, please check the date and do not resurrect old threads. This one is 3 years old. Thread closed.
