Exclamation standard R33 GTR wheels or a set of Nismo (Rays) LM GT2 on a R32 GTR. Advice needed!

Got a bit of a dilema and I need some advice from those in the know.

I have either standard R33 GTR wheels or a set of Nismo (Rays) LM GT2 from an R33 GTR and I need to know which would be best on an R32 GTR.

I don't know the offset of the R33 wheels or know for sure the offset of the LM GT2s, however from the volkracing website I can guess that the offset for the GT2s is 16.

Both are 17x9 with 245x45 rubber.

I have had conflicting reports as to the best offset on an R32 GTR. I have seen 18 and I have seen 23.

Does anyone know what the best offset would be for handling on an R32 GTR?

Does anyone know how to measure the offset on a wheel?

I'd also be interested in knowing what the weight difference is in the two wheels. The LM GT2s look heavier, but I haven't checked without a tyre to see.

Sorry for all the questions, but I need to make a decision soon, and once made, I can't switch back. Also won't have time to get on the track and see which one I like better.

Thanks,

personally i would go with the rays... more than likely they will be lighter... and stronger (and look better). Volk/Rays mags are absolutely awesome rims mate!!

As for the offset im not entirely sure.... I would say the rays mags would work well... but as for handling performance going on offset im sorry i dont know

Go for the rays tho!

More info

Had both wheels off yesterday, and the standard wheels are lighter, but not by too much.

Strength isn't a worry, I've never heard of a standard wheel or a Rays wheel failing or even getting warped.

Leaning towards the Rays, but the offset is definitively 16, when it should be 23.

Anyone know what the offset is measured in?

Assuming that it's mm, do I need 7mm spacers, or 3.5mm spacers?

Yea dude go with the rays, they are light and strong as hell!! I have hit some major potholes here in Chicago and nothing phases 'em, Im more worried about busting a shock than a rim.

The only thing that worries me is the offset.

Turns out that the smaller the positive offset is, the more the wheel is pushed outward towards the guards.

I'm going with the Rays anyway. Hopefully it will all work out.

I know a lot of people got the standard R33 rims into an R32, but I never know someone fitting an aftermarket R33 rims into an R32... I think the offset in an R32 is 20, and for the R33 is 14...

You're right, they didn't fit. Ended up going with the standard r33 rims.

I could have had them machined to take care of the offset, but it wasn't worth the effort.

I've spoken about this very issue with my tuner out here in Japan....he recommended the GT2's over the stock R33's....he said the LM's actually allow more air into the brakes for cooling and they are a stiffer rim. He really likes them but they are expensive. If you already have them, more power to you! He also went into a long drawn out discussion about why 17's are the perfect rim size for the R32 when I asked him about putting the R34 rims on my car
If you're putting on bigger rims....you need to fit those Brembos!
