Saturday Night

After coming back from Bloomington i dropped my girl off and JSwigz, our friend Jeremy, and i went cruising down campus town in Champaign/Urbana with the 79 Z28. Saw a lot of hotties, and made a lot of noise, fun times. Turning left on Neil St. i see my bud from the Ford Asset class(i'm in the auto management program), he's in a decent looking 5.0 mustang 5 speed that i didn't know he had cause he's usually driving in his Taurus. I pull a U-Turn and get next to him drving down Green St. back towards campus. I catch up to him and ask where he's been(had one passenger with him), he was shocked to see me cause he didn't know about the Z, i asked if he wanted to race, he said not here cause he didn't want to go to jail or kill anyone at that, i agreed, so we took it farther away from campus to a back road by the stadium. We stopped at the red light and looked each other down, measuring each other up, the other light turned yellow and we started to rev, i should have neutraled it and shifted it into first at 5500 rpm's(TH350, Hurst Dual Gate shift kit). But i settled with power braking it up to 4500, with the wheels spinning i let loose when the light turned green, both of us leaving plenty of smoke in our midst, i had him at the start and through my second gear, but i got nervous when he started to pull and shifted to 3rd too quick, he walked me the rest of the way, i get behind and we turn right, i pulled up to him and told him to go to the Window shop on Neil st. where everyone hangs out. We get there and i say, "alright i know that thing isn't stock, so what do you have done to it man." He told me all he had was Intake, cam, exhaust. However i have come to believe that is BS.

Why is it bs? After we talked we all walked up to a guy named Shorty(he's about 60, coolest old dude ever) He has a slightly modded Z06 Vette. My friend challenged him, to a race Shorty looked at him like he was crazy for a minute, then agreed So it was on, and John and i would follow, cause we couldn't miss this. So they get out on neil going south, and i'm right behind with a dude who wanted to film it next to me. They do a test run at the second stop light they come to, and the 5.0 held damn close from a 10 mph roll. We get out south of town and they turn around to the two lane highway heading back north. I yell "3 honks, and go" They agree, 3 honks and they're off like lighning out of the hole, the 5.0 held up for about a 1/4 mile, and after a 1/2 the Z06 was gone, i followed my friend through the country a little bit, and headed back to the window shop, relating the race story to the others, they told me Shorty had gotten nailed by the police on his way back Shorty got back and he had only gotten a warning ticket, for going 85 in a 45, YES I EVEN SAW IT MYSELF. We talked about his race and he gave my bud props on his racing skills, and then we decided it was time to go home. We headed out with the thoughts of a fun night on our minds. So i'm going to talk to my friend this week and find out what he really has to done to that 5.0 that he is lying about.

Why on earth would you want to Tranny drop your car? That'd be the death of your transmission.

And you powerbraked it to 4500rpm? You were at the light spinning the tires and the light went green? I fail to see the logic in doing a burn while staging... that's wasted momentum.

Maybe I'm just not seeing what you're trying to say.

When the light turned red, there was more of a hesitation between our light turning green. I had anticipated the light to turn green a lot faster than it did. So when it did, the tires were starting to spin. It wasn't a burn out, just some smoke from the tires grabbing.

Re: Saturday Night

Good loss. I have come to the conclusion that all mustang owners lie about their mods. I can't tell you how many of them I have lost to to find that out. Luckily they are the coolest people at the tracks, which I can't say for camaro owners.

Yeah, the tranny drop was just an afterthought. I know it's bad
I'm going to talk to him and ask for a rematch. Plans for the Z by the end of summer...Wieand 144 Supercharger. That should put it a little over 400 HP estimated. I found out today what the some of the minor mods were on Shorty's Z06. Exhaust(which i could tell anyway), Chip, and underdrive pulley's. I'm stopping by the window shop again this weekend hopefully.

so he's got a Z06, which as it is runs 12's stock standard, AAAAnd he has an echaust, pulleys and a chip added and yet he couldn't beat the mustang ...............sorry but i'd say besides that the mustang is a fast car, its also a lot to do with your friend "shorty's" driving skills which are obviously lacking big time. Maybe he just ain't as quick as he used to be at his old age But seriously if you were able to stay in front of the mustang up till 3rd and yet a modified Z06 is equal with it, then the Z06 driver can't drive it the way it should be driven. sorry man, not wanting to sound mean, but this is what it looks like to me.

He beat the Mustang. But the Mustang was able to hold with him for about 1/4 mile or a little more. And keep in mind the Z i was driving is no slouch itself. Maybe Shorty was just messing with him for all i know. Point is, it was an awesome race to watch.

Re: Saturday Night

Not only that, but Shorty didn't get on it too hard at the start when they were heading back towards town that last time either.
