Question Hot to paint 2 color body

Today I got my 78' corvette (pace)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting
For painting the body I bought black spray and silver color.
I think I will first paint the silver, then cover it (seal the edge with maskol) and spray the black. the problem is that I'm affraid the maskol won't be staright and so the black won't be too. (thought i'm not sure it matters cause a decal will cover it later).
Anyway, does anyone have a better way to paint the body?

Thank you!

Use Tamiya thin masking tape or 3M's pinstriping tape.

Re: How to paint 2 color body

I think you should always paint metallic colours (silver, in your case) last. Paint black first followed by the silver.

Thanks.
I don't have Tamya mask tape, but I'll use something instead.

I will paint black before silver. may there be a problem using maskol on paint that was sprayed?

Silver then black...
general rule of thumb is paint lighter colors first.
I've had good success with blue painters tape as well as fine line tape.
If you are worried about the paint bleeding under the tape just apply a light coat of clear on the tape before you spray the second color.

See the PT panel linked in my signature for an example.

Usually yes, but with silver or gunmetal or mettalic grey no, this colors has better depth and are strong if they're applied over black. About two color scheme use paint tape, if the one that you have is strong put it over and over on the desk on your hand... to take out most of the glue, you only want it to get to the shape of the car and prevent the sprayed paint to go where you dont want to but you dont want it to leave glue or stripe the paint, check my skyline here as example: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=222237

It has a two color scheme using what I've told you. And I also painted the blue after the black to get this deep blue, over white... it would su.. at least for I was looking for

I'm not sure you understood what I ment.
I don't mean to paint one color OVER another. I'm going to paint both on the uncolored body.
I'll cover the siver (I color it first), so the black spray won't get to the lower part of the body- where the silver suppose to be.

I understood you, but to paint a two color scheme you must paint one over another, you must paint first the less opaque one, like you want black and silver, paint it black, and after this mask what you dont want to paint and paint silver, yes, silver over black. I know that you are thinking that black is the darkest one and should be painted after silver and the silver over the body color or the primer, with any other color is the way to go, but no with silver.

Ok, but why must I color one on the other? Can't I cover the lower part on the body, spray the black on the upper part and then paint silver on the original white?

Why 2 times? only once- when I spray the black.

btw, I don't think its possible to paint any color on a sprayed color, is it?

Re: How to paint 2 color body

here is my way i would o about doing your 2 tone.

sand the body
primer
wet sand primer
shoot the car all black.
mask off the top half.
lightly wet sand the black that you will paint over with silver
shoot silver
pull the tape
take a good 2000 grit and wet sand the line were you masked

2 tone is easy, it is when you get into multipul colors. right now i am in a dilema, on finsihing my f-150 4 tone truk.
