Just the same BS, to get money. I don't care, most Turbo cars can be quite and still fast.

Too bad for rotaries

Hell Im looking forward to this....they seriously expect to legally enforce such crap after determining what is legal and what is not through the use of a cheap and nasty DB meter commonly available to the masses....within an uncontrolled environment??

What a joke....but hey its all in the name of road safety!!

NOT

Thats just bull shit revenue raising, & the cop has the discretion to book you or not(PRICKS). In Queensland thats in Oz the db max is 96 but I have not knowen of the cops to inforce it, my brother has a little 323 wagon with a 13B Bridge port & it is hell loud, he has never been booked for it, that I know of at lest.

DB limit

So does this mean they are going after every Harley rider/owner out there, if they dont I think we have a claim for discrimanation. I think this would piss off severly some bikey groups. Good for one good for every one else. I know they say that is how they are made but if here is a limit everyone must adhere to it...

It's a shame the other forum is down at the moment - Brite-eyes' posted the legal wording on there, and I posed part of the ISO for car exhaust noise testing. The car has to be tested in accordance with an ISO / BS standard (and I really doubt if there are many places in NZ who can actually comply with the ISO test procedure).

From what I understand it is very difficult to estimate sound levels with any degree of accuracy. My exhaust isn't that loud and I don't want the threat of being pink stickered every time I drive to work. I'll be watching this issue to see how the NZ Police are going to enforce it.

85 db is about as loud as someone clapping . the police wont be able to follow correct guidelines anyway , it said on the news they are going to test the sound from the exhaust tip , not 1 metre away , not to the side , they will test it at the tip , if it ever hapens to me I am going to demand the police car is tested in the same way. they should have a drive by test , like 5m away from the car to the side , that is the standard elsewhere.

Does it apply to trucks and other road vehicles too? I think most diesel vehicles would fail the 85db at idle.

Er.. where does it say its 85db?

this discussion happened a while back on SDU. Someone (can't remember who) posted the regulations, and as I recall it was 85 db for cars, and 90 db for bikes and trucks.

i say we find a decibel meter and do our own tests just to prove how sh**ty such a method is.

but looking at it this way, all those rotangs on the road are a s**tload louder than most of our cars.

:badass:

This is all tied into the elimation of the boy racers syndrom that seems to be spreading like wild fire. Now think about what I am saying here.

In Auckland they have already closed the Museume to PARKING between 10pm and 6am! I mean your not driving around creating traffic backups, noise of any kind, or disturbing anyone. Yet they are already taking away the larger areas to meet up. This again was due to fuckwits on Queenstreet and Quay street.

They have the new impact standars law going into effect next month. That would eliminate most of the cars younger drivers can afford. Boy Racers if you will.

Noise DB law. Take away the performance exhaust systems and they have no way to show off without loud systems. While I agree something needs to be done about the rotags (N/A ones) that is just fucked. Most of your V8's even factory standard ones produce more than that! Hey mental note here. They will not be able to sell the HSV's, Senators, or club sport V8's anymore then or see them on the streets! Yeah !!!

The car clubs and enthusiasts need to band together for a change and voice our oppinions. Start patitions, demonstrate, what ever!

My $2 worth.
