Besides the boost guage on the driver side "a" pillar of the jap/nz 200sx it also has 184kws, where the aussie version has only 147 but they both have the same engine. so what does the jap/nz version have difrent wich makes it 37kws more powerfull?

As far as I know the only major difference in power is that the Australian model is de-tuned due to either import regulations or Octance level in the fuel. (I have been told both from different people).
I have heard of similar stories with other Japanese cars in Aus aswell. If anyone know for sure I would also like to know. |

From what I've read the difference is the tuning. The Jap spec has higher boost plus computer tuning to take advantage of the higher boost.
Interestingly, the Spec R in japan is turbo and the Spec S is non turbo. I find the detuning in Aussie a rip off as the 184kw runs fine on 96 octane here in NZ and you see in the magazines plenty of imports selling in Aussie. Somebody must have Nissan Australia by the short and curlies. |

200SX vs Integra R
recently a car magazine rated the 200SX as a faster car than the new integre type R, even though not by much , the difference is only point something of a second " in the standing to 100km/h "
would this be the rating of the detuned car with 184 kws or the 147 ?? does anyone know if the integra R is detuned as well when it come to AUS ?? |

that would be the specs of the detuned 147kw 200sx
the 2 cars are both 147kws and i doubt the type r would be detuned. |

I've read two articles on the 184kw S15 for 1/4 times. One quoted 14.1 in a test and the other 13.8. I've raced my mates S15 which was quicker than my car which has be timed at 14.3. The Aussie spec Honda is having trouble cracking the 15s.

This is a list of the differences that makes the Japanese S15 better and faster (could be more):
1) a different ECu 2) a different valve controller (i.e cam timing adjuster) 3) higher-flowing mufflers 4) high flow cat 5) different flywheel 6) different fuel regulator The turbos are exactely the same. It would be a waste of money trying to regain the power lost from detuning. It would be much WISER to just spend that money on other performance mods, like exhaust, front mounted intercooler, bleed valve etc. |

Plus the new model, is heavier, so the 6 extra kilowatts of power still end up meaning the power to weight ratio on the previous Type R model is better. Main benefits of the newer type R, suspension, handling, brakes. I still prefer the older Type R model better though.
