Re: corvette made to be muscle?
the corvette is considered a sports car because it only has two seats. that as far as i know has always defined a sports car. on the other hand recently in the past ten years or so they have kinda been considered muscle cars. for what reason i dont know. i think it might be due to the fact that this day and age there is no muscle cars besides the mustang. since there is no camaros or trans ams anymore. but in my eyes corvettes are still sports cars and always will be. until they put a back seat in. yeah right like thats gonna happen.

I would agree that the corvette is a sports car because of the two seats, but what determines a "muscle car" If all it needs is a back seat, a volkswagon qualifies. If it is sheer power and speed, very few of the 60's muscle cars can keep up with the C5 corvette.

To me a muscle car is pretty much any car from 65-71 that made more than 300hp and was heavy. And a domestic.

Re: corvette made to be muscle?
LOL. ok i dont totaly agree with this but hey it is what you asked for, kinda. according to Encarta World English Dictionary, a "muscle car" is defined as... "powerful car: a flashy car with a big engine, designed to look like a sports car". there ya go. i dont know about the flashy part but i agree with the part about it beinga powerful car. when i think of a muscle car i think of powerful 60's and early 70's cars.

A musclecar I believe truest definition is suppose to be a fullsize car with a large motor.(GTO, Chevelle,Fairlane, Charger)
Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, AMX, are not Musclecars because they are not fullsize cars hence the term Pony cars.

Re: corvette made to be muscle?
a 'vette is "muscle" in my book. The Z06 is just a fucking awesome domestic.
Verdict: Yes

Re: corvette made to be muscle?
from all the stuff Ive ever heard, a muscle car was/is a lightweight, mid-sized car that had a large engine in it. thats all ive ever known them to be, and every time I hear muscle car, thats what it is defined as.

Re: corvette made to be muscle?
No single definition, but this is the one I use:
- Musclecar: American, 1961-74, RWD, V8, midsize or fullsize frame, built for drag strip or street racing - Pony Car: American, Smaller frame, V8, RWD, 1964 - Present - Sports Car: Any nationality, 2 seats, performance oriented, built for road course racing.

Re: corvette made to be muscle?
technically it is not a muscle car because muscle cars were powerful, heavy rwd v8s, that were cheap enough for the common man, vettes are a little more pricey even back in the day compared to like novas, and chevelles, etc...

Re: corvette made to be muscle?
First off: this is an interesting thread.
Second: Camaros, Firebirds, 'Cudas, Mustangs, etc. are called 'Pony Cars' because they were all modeled after the first mid-sized performance car, the Mustang (even though the 'cuda was on the market two weeks before the mustang). Third: I agree with GTStang that a muscle car is a heavy car with a big engine. It takes a lot of 'muscle' to get that big ass hunk of metal moving. Lastly: I have a Stingray in my garage. I'm only 19, so you know it's hopped up. And you can call the 'vette what you want, sports-car muscle-car, I call it fast. Plus it doesn't rust like every other lead-sled out there. Easy, worry-free maintanence and a HUGE engine bay.....who wouldn't want one? |
