New to board and new to mustangs

Howdy all. New to this board so hey. First off let me say that untill 2 months ago I've always been a camaro man. My first car was a 79 z28 my grandmother modded and gave to me on my 16th. (Not a good first car to have at 16) Anyway my wife had been driving a sunfire and me a piece of crap truck for the past 3 years then my truck died and I found my self talking to a car salesman. I happened upon a 2003 mustang GT with only 4k miles manual transmision, cobra R rims and flowmasters (i think) exauhst for only 9k dollars. hesitent at first insisting I "HATED" mustangs the salesman talked me into a test drive and the next thing i knew i was drewling and signing away. well since i baught a new vehical it was only fair to let my wife buy one too. I thought she would be comming home with a small ecconomy car (she had talked like she wanted a hybrid soooo much . . . well she comes home with a 2004 pontiac GTO. NOT FAIR *&%$$ i spend 9k and she spends 36k and ends up with a chevy LT1 engine in a suprisingly light body popping out 380Hp STOCK. No big deal. I go with my friend who rebuilds old crappy looking imports and races them (definatly not a cosmetic racer but a pure power racer) anyway i go with him to firebird raceway (I dont streetrace nor condone it) to see if my stang can stand a chance against his car+13k in mods. well i get there and do i get to race my friend NO I get to race my lovely but suddenly cocky wife and i get smoked. Anyway I need to find a way to get my Hp better than hers for 25k (we made a deal that i get to match the cost of her car but no more. Not all at once i might add i dont have 25k in pocket but ab out 500 per month set aside for car fun. My first i was thinking. . . is there a kit i can get that turns that hood scoop from a decoration to practical. . . I hate how useles that thing is and know there is a way to ram air that thing. i did searches but so far found nothing. the next is definatly im thinking is tranny mods. . . now i am a truck driver so i spend most of my time in high torque 15 speed peterbuilts so i tend to be a lil hard on my tranny when racing what do you guys and gals think ive never done work on vehicals but am excited to do so . . . PS i want to keep it all street legal and NOS FREE and definately no high piched zzzzZZZZZZZ wind up toy sound

#1 I don't know where you buy 2003 GT for 9K but tell me where cause I can make a living on that.

#2 You might loose to ya wife in her GTO but you should have barely lost unless you drive like shit.

#3 Ram Air does shit and CDC makes a Shaker hood for ya car but it's a wase of money other than for look.

#4 Turn around sell that 03 GT for at least 2x what you paid for it. Throw a down payment on an 03 Cobra use the $500 a month to pay for the car and insurance. Now call it a day cause that GTO isn't fucking touching an 03-04 Cobra.

Re: New to board and new to mustangs

I baught it in phoenix at the automall at the pontiac dealership some contract with all the dealerships say they cant keep a car on the lot for more than 6 months if its not thier brands. . . How much more Hp does the cobra have. . . insurance realy isnt a problem with me i have max coverage with my company now for only 80/mo for my mustang. . . thanks for the infor on the hood scoop that would have been a big dissapointment. . . as far as being a shitty driver i wouldnt say im the best but definately not a bad driver just not much dragging exp. . . ive driven both cars and while i like the mustang better especial for its price in a stock to stock comparison the gto has the gt beat not by much but there is a very noticable difference

Re: New to board and new to mustangs

i cant even find a 2003 V6 for 9k, something must seriously be wrong with your car if you only paid 9k for it. Was it in a wreck?

Re: New to board and new to mustangs

Well the cobra comes with 390 stock i believe, but that ins't the best part about the car. It has tons of place for small improvments that brings about major hp gains. Also I was reading in the 5.0 magazine and they say that test s have shows that the engine can withstand around 1000hp with its stock internals so it is built tough as hell. A simple pully install could give you some major hp.

Start with the basics performance enhancers ...
Modified exhaust, cold air induction kit [ k & n filter ], good set of gears, then maybe a chip setup.

Since the thread was 2004 and not now, that makes the story even crazier...dude bought a GT that was 1 year old for 9K? Wonder what ever happened?

LOL, wow no kidding. even though I would like to leave this open to laugh at, it must be closed to keep things current.
