Best take off

I'm not sure if anyone has asked this question, but if they did I'm sorry for asking it again. I just wanted people's opinion on what RPM they take off at from a dead stop, without burning their tires to smithereens. I have a 97 GS-T. And also, around what RPM's should I shift to get the fastest time, or to go the fastest?

rev it up to 7k and drop the clutch! j/k man... around 2-2500 is perfect, but feather the clutch out, dont drop it! same with second... feather the clutch or you will probably spin if your makeing enough power...

as for shifting... this is what i do... its goin to take some getting use to, but so far this is what i got my best time on

1st - redline
2nd - 6500
3rd - 6300

whatever you feel is comfortable, thats what i would do... i'm not saying shift exactly like i do, shift however it feels best to you!

what you have to understand is how wheel toqure works, and its impossable to know what power curve best fits your shift points without a good dyno. Every car is diffrent, but that should help

i launch around 3300rpm to hook up pretty good, and don't drop it, feather it out a bit. i take 1st to redline but if my boost is over 14psi or so i will spin the tires after 5500rpm. i also hold the clutch right over the 100% engage point for quick shifts, i never let it all the way out. 2nd gear is an up in boost from low setting 14.5ish to hi setting 17ish. and all the way to 6200 [60mph-ish] or so, 3rd to 6000+ish depending on the race at that point [100mph+]

but most of all it is practice practice practice... and then more practice. if you can't hook up at 3500rpm try 3300rpm. if you hook up, then mash the gas and spin or hop feather the clutch a bit more. oh ya and practice practice practice

It seems to me that holding the clutch 3/4 in while the crank is spinning from 5000-7000rpm would lead to CW problems. If putting pressure on the crank while starting was bad, that method couldn't be the greatest on the engine. May be wrong though.

i wish i could launch at 3300... but the tires dont like the 21psi in first! maybe with slicks i can get up to 3k who knows... well see this weekend!

I launch at 5500, F wheel hop Seriously, wheephop will break things. Dont make me list all the parts I've gone through. A huge part of reducing wheelhop, and launching well, is setting up the suspension properly. Motor mounts, shocks/springs, camber, etc. I can spin all 4 to redline with no wheel hop. That means less breakage and better 60 foot times. FWD is a bit trickier, you want a stiff ass end.
