AEM CAI question to AEM CAI owners!

I´m thinking about buying an AEM CAI in the near or far away future. So my question is at which rpm is it becoming really loud because I don´t want my ride to be noisy all the time anymore. It should be noisy when there is a "need" to be noisy. Do you know what I mean?

I don't have one but from what I've heard it's silent all the way untill you push the pedal the metal.
so only WOOAAAP at WOT

Exactly, if you wanna be in stealth mode, just stay off the gas and in the low revs, or when you're cruising, you won't hear a thing. It's only when you depress the pedal maybe halfway that you start to hear it rumbling and at WOT at high revs it sounds the business, very loud but very nice. And it's nothing like an exhaust really(which I hate). I highly recommend it, expensive but worth it. Looks good in the engine bay too

Sounds good! That´s exactly what I´m looking for. Sound when I want sound....! Do you know where I can find some dyno tests? I want to see where I´d gain some power and if I´d lose some power in exchange in another rpm range. How is it with yours? Thanx for the responses!

Hi Predator! I see you´ve found your way in here again! drift and del in the Prelude forum told me that removing the resonator and putting in a K&N drop-in filter would do the same like a CAI because the filter will suck in the cold air through the hole in the air-box. I think that´s a good solution and we´d only have to buy the K&N drop-in filter!

Welcome back. I don't remember your old nick name . When the boards changed the data base wasn't copied, so everyone had to relogin at AF.

Do you mean only replacing the filter-element or also removing/modifying a part of the 'stock' resonator box?
I've got a replacement filter of k&N installed but don't know if it is possible to get more sound of it ? Maybe drilling some holes in the under part of the resonator???

Hmm this sounds like a good solution- especially because it isnt that expensive. It means that u just remove the resonator box and put their the drop in without removing the old intake (dunno what 'Schlauch' is in english ). But is their still the problem with water accessing the engine?!

I think he means removing the whole resonator box and putting this drop in there instead of the old resonator box.

Btw this wouldnt have an ram effect right?!

I´m talking about removing the complete resonator (which should be located in your wheel-wells like the filter of a CAI would do, too) and just putting a K&N drop-in filter in! Then the engine should suck in the cooler air from the wheel-wells without having to go through the hindering (hampering ??) resonator. It should become louder too because I´d guess the function of the resonator is to keep the filter system quiet. At least I dunno another reason why there should be a resonator.

No, no ram effect with this solution! To get a ram effect you could buy an open Green cone filter and put the Green "Twister" on it which will protect it from sucking in hot engine air. Then you put an alloy pipe into the front of this Twister thingy and lead it somewhere into the front spoiler!
The Twister is just an alloy housing for the cone filter. www.green-filter.de
