camry- reverse wont engage

My '92 Camry Wagon has been losing reverse power for a few days. Now reverse will barely engage, when I accelerate nothing happens unless I'm on an incline. Fluid level was fine and all other gears are problem free. Last week my sister drove it into a ditch (stuck pretty good)- could that have damaged something? And will it cause the rest of my gears to fail???

Bring it to a transmission specialist and get their opinion. There is a good chance your transmission is on its last legs.

Re: camry- reverse wont engage

Hi,

I needed help for 1998 Toyota Sienna/LE key less enter remote/transmitter programming Interaction’s. I have bought this van without remote than I bought one remote as my user manual say part # GQ43VT7T,1470.K1361 by EBay. If any one know how could I do program my self please let me know. I’ll be very thankful this act of kindness.

Latif

You might as well have the basic transmission service performed (change fluid, pan gasket and clean the filter screen) while you're there if you haven't had it done lately. Shouldn't cost you more than $50. Don't be surprised if the transmission shop wants to do a rebuild on yours. That will cost you about $1,500. Think your 92 Camry is worth it? I sold my 92 last year and I donated my 87 to charity just before that. Repair bills were getting outrageous. Happy holidays!

I think the transmission question is a little past due.

Was reverse gear working fine before it was driven into the ditch? If so, look closely for a bent lever or damage to the transmission or cables from this incident.

If reverse gear was starting to go before it was driven into the ditch, then what the above posters said...

It is time for a tranny. Please learn from this and don't let a chick drive your car no matter who she is.
