Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, Eurethane

I keep reading about eurethane and Carbon fiber being better than fiberglass. What makes it better aside from the fact that carbon fiber is lighter? eurethane is more flexible? any help is appreciated.

urethane doesnt crack as easily, neither does carbon fiber, they both fit better, and will last longer, CF is nearly 3 times stronger than steel.

Correct me if I am wrong, but carbon fiber cracks, whereas steel just dents, so while it IS stronger, it has a downside. So if you have a carbon fiber fender (it makes for a good example) and you get hit, you won't have a fender left, while a steel one would just have a big dent in it.

he makes a good point BUT, i've seen a hood thats flown off a car before at the track, car was going around 100 mph at the time, hood flew off and went about 80 - 100 feet in the air, came down and smoked the ground quite fast and it split the hood in 2, top layer from bottom layer, it ripped off the hinges and the CF was still partly on there and this wasnt even a great quality hood

just my 2 cents

Re: Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, Eurethane

Sometimes you cant bend steel back, or else it will break too. Even if you heat it up, you still have a chance.

Re: Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, Eurethane

I haven't experienced cracking. I drove under the bumper of a pickup with mine, and all it did was snap the hood pin and gouge the hood (where his metal bumper was grinding on it). But no cracking. Its strong shit dude.
You can see when looking at the fender how far it was crunched down on it.

This pic makes me sad.

XR8ed Lidds is the name of the company. They're local to Toronto. And it wasn't even too expensive.

I love it.

Cool, I'll have to find out if they sell in the states when I replace my hood. May be awhile though...
