how do they get that kinda power?!
hey everyone, My brother drives a 2003 Lincoln LS, and I couldn't get into the lincoln site, servers must be down or something, @ any rate, I'm trying to figure out, with that 3.9L v-8, how do they crank out that kinda power?! i can't understand! you see that kinda power on 4.6L 8's why don't they just use these engines in the mustangs?! kinda sidetracked from my topic, i haveta say, people really don't know what there missing with this car!

Re: how do they get that kinda power?!
You got that right! One of the best kept secrets in America, IMO.
The 3.9 engine is pretty well optimized from the factory. Unlike the 4.6, it's not capable of an extremely high degree of improvement. There is some improvement to be had with freer flowing intake and exhaust, but not much. The cast exhaust manifold is already extrude-honed for better flow over typical mainifolds and the intake uses variable timing for a broader power curve. The path from the air box to the TB is about as short as possible, with the TB at the front of the engine. Connecting rods are forged and cracked for tighter tolerances and lighter weight. The whole valvetrain is very lightweight, but strong. The whole engine is aluminum and uses steel sleeves for the cyliders. Even the exhaust, right down to the cats, is optimized; mandrel-bent & high flowing with a pressure differencial equalizing chamber similar to what Borla uses.

wow, ford/lincoln really put alot of great effort into this car! as i'd said it's my brothers car, and even though he isn't very mechanically inclined, he too has a great appreciation of the car! I Must say, to me it is clearly one of ford's greatest productions!
