Question odometer inop

Hi Just got a 98 Regal GS and the digital odometer stopped working. It now displays " ERROR" . Any ideas on this? The speedometer is analog and works fine. Thanks.

I have the same problem on my 97 Regal GS. Everything works (gas mileage predict, oil service interval, etc) except the Odometer, which reads 'ERROR'. Mine happened after I installed a new battery...Buick and its dealers have been less than useful. Please help us....

Just a quick follow-up...I was able to pull the Instrument Cluster out of my Buick Regal GS, send it in to Southern Electronics, and have the mileage reset (per my signed Statement) for about $170. All went better than I expected. This compares to the dealer asking over $1000 to pull the instrument cluster ???? IT wasn't that hard with a manual.

I have a 98 GS and the odometer reads "rErro" and it has a few other querks. The speedometer reads about 10% slow, the temp gage says HOT when the engine is cold and as it warms, it goes down to just below hot. When the key is on and the engine is off, the "2" for second gear is displayed and garbage is displayed on the driver information display. When started, the oil light flashes as if it where the seat belt light and if the seat belt is latched, the light goes out. The english metric is stuck on metric for the HVAC control and the fuel data does nothing. The check engine light is not on. The dealer said that the only computer in the car without fault codes is the PCM, else everything is tainted. I have replaced the cluster with a another used cluster and it does the exact same thing. The car runs and drives fine. I have cleaned all ground connection, pulled fuses and connectors trying to isolated the problem. When the dash powers up, it does exactly the same thing regardless. Does your cluster act in this same manner or something else screwed-up?

Odometer Error

Hi, just a followup. I sent my cluster off to Southern Electronics and had it repaired. So far everything is working okay. So I'll keep my fingers crossed. My son's 97 regal LS had some weird problems which ended up being caused by the ignition switch. Cost about $230 to have the dealer replace it. Good Luck!
