Unhappy Odometer/Trip Odometer Inop

Hello,

I am working on a 1996 Ford Explorer. Last night while driving down the highway I reset my trip odometer button. Ever since I hit the reset button the odometer and trip odometer don't work. The speedometer still works fine. I have hit the reset over and over again since then and it still won't work. The reset button feels normal and springs right back into place. Anyone have ANY ideas?

Thanks

I had an old explorer that I did the same thing - hit the reset button (while moving) and it stopped working properly after that. After talking to a few people I was told you should NEVER reset the trip odometer while moving for exactly this reason.. Something about how its still mechanical and if you are moving it is trying to advance and then when you reset it, it can mess it up. I know this doesn't tell you how to fix it, but possibly what caused it.

Re: Odometer/Trip Odometer Inop

that's probably what happened to my 95 Mercedes sedan. I hit the reset button when I was driving. And now it's inop and clicking every tenth of a mile. Very maddening. I don't even care if it works anymore, but want to know how to silence the clicking. Arrghh
