90 Dodge Ram Engine bogs down while driving

Hello,

I have a 1990 Dodge Ram that idles fine. But, when i push down on the gas pedal truck will start to go then all of a sudden bog down. Its like it does not want to go and will sometimes stall during this time. If I put the gas pedal all the way down to the floor the engine will get going but not really go past 30 to 35mph. And it also seems that it wont go any faster then 65mph on the freeway. If i take her real easy with the gas truck will get up there butbog ocationally when pressure is applied to the gas. Please any suggestions as to the problem would be helpful. Took it in to a mechanics shop they cant find the problem.

Thanks for your time.

Re: 90 Dodge Ram Engine bogs down while driving

there are so many possibilities that I'll just list a few and see what you can find:
1. clogged catalytic converter
2. timing chain worn out/ stuck distributor weights
3. bad fuel injector or bad SMEC (computer)
4. idle air control valve
5. low compression on 1 bank (1,3,5,7 usually fails first)
6. massive intake leak at air pump
7. stuck heat riser (exhaust manifold)
8. EGR valve, O2 sensor, HAC (if you have one)
9. Throttle position sensor

It sounds as though your truck is in what's called the "Limp home mode"...
the list goes on and on... Start somewhere here and you'll find it. You didn't state you had any trouble strarting it, so most of the sensors should work.
Try the self diagnostic tool (IGN on-off-on-off-on and count the blinks) theres a guide for the trouble codes somewhere on the Web....
