'91 RX7- New User, New Questions

I bought a '91 that drove fine for weeks. (The car had been sitting for a year when I bought it but cranked right up w/ a new battry )
I parked it one nite and the next a.m. the starter wld turn but the engine wld not crank at all. Sounded like no fire at all. I had it towed to the dealer and they say it needs a TPS and coolant sensor at about $1200!!! They say it is running now after they got it un-flooded but could stall and stop at any time now. Now I have been driving for 3 weeks with no probs.
My Qs
- Does this sensor deal sound like the real prob?
- Can I change these sensors myself? (I have changed both on Ford and Chev eng's before and I have the rx7 Haynes manual already)
- Is this common on 13b rotaries?

Well since its an S5 you can just floor the gas pedal on startup until it unfloods, works for mine at least. . . Mine had a problem with tending to flood, but it kind of just went away after consistent hard driving.

It probably just flooded once. Don't even listen to the dealers. But you should get a compression check.

13B's are notorious for several things; incredible power, long life, and they flood SOOOOOO easy! In short, you may have a couple of problems. The apex seals could be dried out from sitting. That will show up in a compression check. If you started the car, did not let it warm up and then parked it you may have "the flooding problem". Probably the best place to start (IMHO) is at the following web address; http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/cfaqmenu.html

LOTS of great information.

Good luck!
