Hey all. Kinda new here, so don't yell at me.
Anyway, I'm looking to buy a Del Sol and am considering either the VTEC or the Si. I was really looking to get the VTEC, but I think instead I'll opt for an Si with a GSR motor swap. My questions are: 1) I just want to make sure it's possible to install rear disc brakes on the Si, which comes stock with drum brakes on the back. I believe I'll need to swap the proportioning valve as well. 2) I've seen 'em before, but I just want a difinitive "yes" or "no" on whether the GSR motor will fit in the Del Sol engine bay as a successful engine swap. Thanks and I appreciate any input.

Thanks. Well, at least I know I can do the motor swap. I was really hoping to install the disc brakes though. That was one of the reasons I was going to buy a VTEC over the Si was the fact it had rear discs. My '88 Accord has rear drums and I would prefer better stopping power of four discs, especially if I am going to add more power to the car than the brake system was originally designed for.
If anyone else knows if the rear drums can be swapped for rear discs, I'd appreciate any info.

it can be done, its just a bit of a pain in the ass. while you are getting the motor from the gsr, get the back brake setup as well. you will need a lot of other parts that i cant think of right now, just look around and you will find instructions on how to do it eventually.

The Sol SI has disc brakes to start with, at least my 93 does.

Well, I guess I'm allowed a few oversights. According to Honda's site, the '97 Si has rear discs, so I guess I'm covered then. I could have sworn it had drums. Oh well, less work for me! :sun: Thanks for the info peeps. Much appreciated.

get a totalled S model and build up from there... including big brake conversion. Your insurance will be way lower.

All S models come with rear drums. Si and VTEC models come with rear disc. Some VTEC models have ABS which I would not recommend if you like to race. A rear disc conversion can easily be done on the S model. The GSR swaps into the del Sol very nicely. You just have to make sure you have the del Sol VTEC shift linkage and a set of B-series mounts (the ones from the Integra that the motor gets pulled from will work). Any more questions about del Sols, please feel free to IM me, my sn is H22AEG2. Or you can PM me through this board. I don't spend much time on boards. Good luck in your del Sol hunting
