Both of the engines could handle the boost as long as your running at low pressure like around 7 psi. If you want to go with higher boost, you'll have to start replacing internals. I.E. low compression pistons, rods, head work. Don't use a B16 or B17. If your gonna go with forced induction use a B18B (LS engine) or B18C1 (GS-R engine). Their natural low compression makes them second to none for turbo.

i would go with the b16 due to the better r/s ratio. and yes, the b16 can handle moderate boost on stock internals for daily driving.

Re: b16a1 ???

If youre gonna boost go for a 1.8 liter b-series. Perferably a b18a or b18b due to low compression. |

Re: b16a1 ???
If you're going with a small amount of boost (6-8psi), then really the B16 is just as good a canidate for the turbo as any other motor. Once you start to boost more, then its going to be expensive on either motor because you're going to have to run a better engine managment system ($). So really, its all the same.
Boosted B16s = quick
