I know 2 people other than myself who drive 2000+ eclipses, both over 50k miles, never had any serious problems such as what you describe. to be a little bit more specific, did you particularly mean the 2000 model year, or 2000+ eclipses in general?

Re: Head gasket

If they were having blown headgaskets that early...you would think there would be a recall...so I doubt it

Head gaskets revisited

A quick Google search shows that at least a few other folks have had head gasket problems, just wondering if anyone else out there has heard of this, and under what circumstances. A friend with a '99 Eclipse (NA, 48,000mi) was told by her mechanic that she had a bad head gasket, which is leaking oil on the *outside* of the engine. I immediately called BS, but now that I've checked around a bit, it sounds like it could be the case. I'll be doing a UV dye check on her car this week. I appreciate any comments/input from the folks out there regarding how common this is and, more importantly, what the cause(s) might be. Thanks a lot.
